Ever been faced with the situation where that poached fish you’ve been eyeing is no longer available and you have to settle with whatever that is left on the menu for your main course? You don’t like it but you can’t kick up a fuss either as there is absolutely nothing the crew can do at 35,000 feet in the air!

As an airline passenger, do you know that you can pre-order your meals before travel to guarantee first choice of main course? Or, if you would like a meal for your little ones or a special meal to meet your dietary requirements, you can request your special meal(s) online as soon as you have a confirmed booking.

Unbeknown to many, the types of special meals available on board are not restricted merely to vegetarian, halal or kosher.  There is an array of selections including diabetic, gluten intolerant, low lactose, lacto-ovo vegetarian, Asian vegetarian,  low fat and low salt, to name a few.

At British Airways, customers in First, Club World and World Traveller Plus can pre-order their meals between 24 hours and 30 days prior to their flight using ba.com and the ‘manage my booking tool’.  The service guarantees their first choice of main course.

Said Lynn McClelland, British Airways’ Head of Catering; “We understand how important it is for customers to enjoy their flight and part of this involves them being able have their first choice of meals.  We want to give customers as much choice as possible when flying and we are delighted that we have been able to offer this service to 21 routes operated by British Airways.  By the end of 2015, this service will be available on all on all long-haul outbound flights from London Heathrow, followed by London Gatwick.”

So the next time you take flight, avoid disappointment and settle down to a pleasant flight with the pre-ordered meals of your choice.
