Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) announced last 7 May 2015 that it is serving a selection of delicious ‘Kampung Classics’ to diners during this coming Ramadan. The exclusive buka puasa menu options have been carefully crafted by the Centre’s award-winning brigade of 51 Chefs to offer guests the chance to enjoy traditional and contemporary buka puasa fare served right in the heart of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC).

In addition to its great location, the Centre will also offer Ramadan guests a designated prayer room, prayer mats, sandals, on-site ablution facility and an Imam for Maghrib, Isya’ and Tarawih prayers, allowing diners to comfortably perform their religious responsibilities. All five of the venue’s kitchens; Chinese, Western, Cold, Pastry and Malay, have been certified halal by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), so Muslim guests can also enjoy their Ramadan meal with added peace of mind.

“We always aim for our guests to enjoy the best possible Ramadan experience,” said Alan Pryor, General Manager, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. “As such, similar to previous years we are focusing on convenience, comfort and cuisine but this year, back by popular demand, is our public buka puasa at RM115 nett per person. Available from 22 June to 7 July 2015, the public buka puasa is limited to 250 guests per evening, so make sure you book early to avoid disappointment,” explains Pryor.

Once again, the Centre’s Ramadan promotion offers clients the option of organising their own private buka puasa banquets for 100 guests or above. In its efforts to deliver value to guests, the Centre will be retaining the 2014 prices this year, which range from RM115 nett per person for the delectable Ramadan Al-Mubarak menu to RM157 nett per person for the exquisite Ramadan Al-Kareem menu.

According to the Centre’s Executive Chef, Richmond Lim, this year’s Ramadan promotion features the same successful theme as last year, ‘Kampung in the City’, but includes a host of new Kampung favourites.

Elaborating on the theme, Chef Richmond said, “to truly encapsulate the essence of Kampung cooking in this year’s Ramadan offering, we have reintroduced the popular Gulai Kawah and put Laksa Lemak Daging Tetel on the menu. Our team also used their creativity to craft the sure to be favourites, Nasi Lemak Spring Rolls”.

Guests can also look forward to the ‘Chef Action Stations’ where local favourites such as mee goreng mamak, Penang char kuey teow, Hainanese chicken rice, assam laksa, mee curry Nyonya, prawn mee and wantan mee, chicken and beef murtabak, roti bom, roti jala served with chicken curry, dhall curry and sardine sambal will be available. In addition, guests can enjoy Chicken and Beef satay, wholesome signature bubur lambuk (rice porridge), and the staple of all Hari Raya gatherings, succulently-spiced rendang tok complete with nasi impit, ketupat and lemang.

Both private and public menus also offer contemporary and international choices for guests looking for something a little different. Other options include Pita Kebab Arab Daging Cincang (Arabic-style minced meat kebab on pita bread), roasted fish Tikka, a range of Italian pasta made à la minute to each guest’s liking, Hyderabad Roast Lamb served with Pakistani Biryani rice and condiments and a wide selection of barbequed seafood infused with Thai flavours.

To complete the meal in style, diners can head to the ‘Goreng Gorengan’ station to enjoy banana, jackfruit (cempedak) and bread fruit (sukun) fritters, keropok lekor (fish and prawn crackers) and other deep-fried treats. Those with a sweet tooth can look for sumptuous serawa durian, local kuih, cakes, pastries, fresh fruits, dates and many more to end the night.

The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre’s private ‘Kampung in the City’ will be available daily throughout the Ramadan month, whereas the public buka puasa is only available from 22 June to 7 July 2015. Since public sitting is limited and reservations are required for private events, please contact Abby at +6 03 2333 2866 or June at +6 03 2333 2877 to enjoy this Ramadan Kampung extravaganza.
