Melaka, 22nd January 2014 – In conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration, Philea Resort & Spa management staff recently visited Rumah Sejahtera Old Folks Home in Machap Baru, Melaka to usher in the Chinese New Year and spread some festive joy among its 18 residents.
A total of 15 resort employees led by Director of Marketing Communications, Connie Chin, brought along a few colorful patters of Yee Sang and cookies to treat the elderly residents with the hope of bringing an auspicious start of the year of the Horse. During the visit, the elderly were overjoyed after receiving the red packet, mandarin oranges and indulging in the specially prepared Yee Sang by the Resort’s Chinese Chef Wang Huee Suan who was also present to bring cheer to the old folks.
“Taking care of the elderly is a responsibility that is very dear to our hearts as filial piety is a cornerstone of Chinese Culture and also part of our upbringing. We at Philea Resort and Spa are pleased to be able to do our part for the needy this festive season,” said Tee Mei Fong, Senior Marketing Communications Executive.
“We come and toss Yee Sang with the elderly, give them ang pows and spend some time with them so that they know they are not alone, and that there are still people who care,” said Tee.
“We are grateful to the resort staff for their compassion. This may only be a small gesture but it surely means a lot to these people,” said the village headman, Wong Huey Yam.
The visit was part of resort’s annual corporate social responsibility programme to share happiness with the less fortunate. Philea Resort and Spa look forward to support other meaningful initiatives as they form the basis of a caring corporate community.
