Ever wonder how life in Kuala Lumpur was like back when we were still under British rule? Then take on the Free Heritage Guided Walk brought to you exclusively by Kuala Lumpur City Hall. It is designed to give an insight to tourists on how the colonial part of Kuala Lumpur came into being.
This old section of Kuala Lumpur is now an important historical enclave and a must visit for all historical and cultural enthusiasts when being in Kuala Lumpur. This well thought off heritage walk takes visitors to 11 historical sites located within the vicinity of Dataran Merdeka (loosely translated as Freedom Square).
During this pleasant walk throughout the Old Kuala Lumpur, visitors will have the opportunity to get close and personal with notable structures, most of them built during the late 19th and early 20th century that now house the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery (formerly The Government Printing Office); the National Textile Museum (formerly the Federated Malay States Railway Station & Selangor Works Department building); the Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture (Sultan Abdul Samad Building); and the Panggung Bandaraya or City Theatre (formerly the Old City Hall).
Besides that, visitors participating in this walk are also given the privilege to enter the exclusive Royal Selangor Club for refreshments. What is interesting about the walk is that it reveals the untold stories of persons and communities who have contributed to Kuala Lumpur’s growth. Visitors will get to immerse themselves with the stories of the past political aspirations, legacies, lifestyle, traditions and the architecture of the neighbourhood and other hidden treasures.
Commencing on the 15th of December 2012, interested visitors can now opt to join the walk that is scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m., beginning at the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery.
