With Deepavali, or the Festival of Lights, that is just around the corner, One World Hotel is warming up for the joyous occasion by collaborating with students from Saito College to decorate the hotel with beautiful and colourful kolam recently.
Kolam is an auspicious art of decorating the entrances of home and houses using rice flour. It is thought to bring prosperity to homes. Staying true to tradition, instead of ready made kolam, over twenty students and hotel staffs gathered and join forces to complete two kolam themed ‘Beauty of Lights’ using coloured rice.
Held at the hotel’s lobby and the award-winning coffee house, Cinnamon, the event which began at 10am ended at nearly 6pm with General Manager, Mr. Ho Hoy Sum putting a final touch to the artwork. As a token of appreciation for the students’ great effort, he awarded them certificate of participation and complimentary vouchers towards the end of the event.
This year instead of hiring professionals for the kolam decoration, we decided to hold it differently by collaborating with Saito College as we aim to keep the cultural aspect of this art alive and to promote cultural diversity and the spirit of unity among the participants. It was truly heart warming to see students and staff of various races working in groups and enjoying themselves. This meaningful collaboration is indeed a success as most of the staff admitted on having fun and able to discover the process of decorating a kolam.
Established in 1988 by it’s founder, Mr. Tetsuo Saito, Saito College has emerged as one of the most reputable design and professional colleges in Malaysia. It has produced more than 6000 graduates in the last 23 years.
