Royal Selangor continues its retail store expansion in Malaysia with its newest store at Dataran Pahlawan in Malacca. The latest retail store’s identity draws inspiration from the tin mines – the source of pewter – and features a cashier counter decorated with pewter sheets that alludes to the traditional mengkuang weave motif. The creative use of geometric patterns from the traditional Malaysian craft captures the spirit of the brand, infusing Malaysia’s rich heritage to create objects of desire for the 21st century.
According to the Executive Director of Royal Selangor Marketing, Chen Tien Yue, “Malacca is striving to balance its pace of development with preservation of its rich heritage. We believe that a brand like Royal Selangor can play a part in helping Malacca maintain that balance. With a double volume façade and a location at the mall entrance, this store is already attracting Malaccan residents and tourists (who are) curious to know more about this 129-old brand.”
In the past few years, Royal Selangor has taken pewter to a new level through its cutting edge collections such as cutting edge tableware and home accessories designs, including collaborations with international designers such as London based VW+BS, China’s Jamy Yang, Singapore’s Nathan Yong and also Hong Kong’s Freeman Lau.
Established in Kuala Lumpur in 1885, Royal Selangor is available in over 20 countries, with retail stores in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, India, Indonesia and Australia. The brand is also available online at royalselangor.com.
