Throughout my travels, I have stayed in few luxurious resorts, with impeccable interior design and heavenly refinements

However, I have never before experienced anything quite like Sibu Island Resort, a beautiful island resort that could only be accessed using the boat and tucked away in a corner of the South China Sea. Sibu Island is a mesmerising escapade with its soothing tropical breeze and white sandy beaches, which is already making its mark as a preferred island holiday destination that offers
not just offshore retreat to its guests but also adventure holiday, corporate teambuilding and spa.

Sibu Island Resort is Johor’s perfect island escapade off the east coast of Malaysia. It is only accessible by a ferry that takes guests from the scenic Tanjung Leman Jetty to Sibu Island Resort in around thirty minutes. Upon my arrival, I was warmly greeted by two lovely ladies who were playing guitar and singing, which would surely have enthused gentlemen.

However, there was something else more dramatic that captured my attention: I saw deer roaming around the compound of the resort freely – like I said, this is something that I have never experienced before. Guests are allowed to pet and feed them with vegetables (if the deer allows as such). Although the deer are tame, children  require adult supervision when interacting with these creatures. There are also peacocks and rabbits that.

I was given a tour of the resort and I was introduced to various rooms on offer, ranging from Superior Room to suites such as Serindit, Layang-Layang, Honeymoon and Raja Udang. All rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with television, minibar, internet access and the usual amenities for guests. There is no reason for guests not to feel comfortable when staying at the resort.
With the rooms’ traditional Malay-styled exterior, they are furnished with simple yet tastefully romantic decor, nothing over-thetop or lavish, suitable for newlyweds or honeymooners.

Though the rooms are well appointed and inviting, guests are encouraged to go out and enjoy outdoor activities such as snorkelling in the deep blue sea or riding on the banana boat.
Single-seater, double-seater and even tripleseater kayaking is also available, including diving. For those who are new to diving, the resort provides them with training by qualified
and experienced trainers, equipment and boat to get to the diving point. For those who fear the sea, the resort also offers appropriate dry activities such as the adrenaline-pumping
flying fox, archery, beach volley ball and beach soccer so you that can bend like Beckham.

The Sibu Island Resort also makes a good destination for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) since it is able to provide various fun and challenging activities for teambuilding and corporate purposes. Six meeting and conference rooms are also available for those who intend to make the resort the place to conduct business retreat.

When it comes to dining, the resort spoils its guests with many choices. The airy terrace of Lumba-Lumba Coffee House awaits everyone with open arms, serving all sorts of delicious buffet selections all day long. Guests are even allowed to take along with them picnic baskets when visiting the beaches.

I was told by one of the resort employees that their executive chef prepares grilled seafood and a selection of pizzas to give a sensational dining experience. Lumba-Lumba Coffee House’s opens from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. for buffet breakfast, 12:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. for buffet lunch and 7:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. for buffet dinner. As for ala carte dining, the coffee house serves from 11:30 a.m. until 11:30 p.m.

Guests will never have any problem in ensuring that their tummies remain full throughout their stay. The resort also organises barbeque dinner on the beach, should the weather permits. What is a resort without a spa? Sibu Island Resort’s Merak Spa offers a wonderfully rejuvenating spa experience amidst tranquil surroundings. Guests are encouraged to try Merak Spa’s signature Spa Packages that incorporate traditional and classical massage techniques from the South East Asian region.

In short, this captivating island resort is indeed a perfect getaway that suits any guest since it gives a little bit of something for everyone. Without doubt, this is one of the places where guests could easily escape from the bustle and surrounded by not just the tropical island vibe but also the fauna unique to the resort, offering guests an experience like they have never had before.
