The Heat is On at the KL Big Kitchen Festival 2015

The heat of the Big Kitchen is reaching its boiling point as the food festival from 29 until 31 May 2015 is 70% underway with exciting new developments announced by the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur at a special press conference held at his office on 20 May 2015. It unveiled the Mayor’s trophy and its unique design whilst simultaneously announcing its very special Royal Chef, list of confirmed Chefs, specialties and the new festival partners.

The inaugural KL Big Kitchen Festival 2015, launched earlier this month by Y.Bhg. Datuk Seri Hj. Ahmad Phesal Hj. Talib, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur is already creating a lot of interest amongst local foodies. The three-day food festival is proudly presented by Kuala Lumpur City Hall in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism & Culture.

It unveiled the Mayor’s trophy and its unique design whilst simultaneously announcing its very special Royal Chef, list of confirmed Chefs, specialties and the new festival partners.

At the KL Big Kitchen festival 2015, foodies will get to experience a total of 119 recipes that will be prepared exclusively by the participating chefs during the cooking demos and workshops, including contestants during the Big Challenge competitions.

In addition to meeting their favourite chefs, visitors will get a chance to meet a very special Royal guest at the festival, Her Royal Highness (HRH) Tengku Puan Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah. Malaysia Airlines is also utilising the inaugural festival as a platform to promote its collaboration with Her Royal Highness Tengku Puan Pahang with an exclusive menu, Dari Dapur Istana (From the Royal Kitchen) which is made available on-board its outbound flights from KL throughout this year.

Electrolux, the festival’s official kitchen appliances partner, will flying in Michelin-star Chef Christian Mettermeier from Germany who will be featuring a recipe using the SousVide oven to create a new taste experience. All ingredients for the recipes during the festival will be provided by the official ingredient’s partner, SAM’s Groceria.

Also at the special conference, the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur unveiled the prestigious Mayor’s Trophy that will be presented to the winners of the Big Challenge competitions to be held during the KL Big Kitchen Festival 2015 including the KL Big Kitchen, Big Race Competition, KL Signature Mocktail Competition and KL Signature Dish Competition. All three competitions have to date received overwhelming response with over hundreds of applications received by the organisers.

The Mayor’s trophy is exclusively designed by one of the festival partners, Christofle Paris, the world’s leading silversmith. The partnership between Christofle and Kuala Lumpur City Hall has resulted in the creation of a personalised and unique trophy befitting the eminence of the awards.

Besides the prestigious Mayor’s trophy, the winners of each competition will also receive Cash Prizes up to RM15,000 and gifts sponsored by Electrolux.

All the international chefs will be flown in from their originating countries by the festival’s official airlines, Malaysia Airlines. Upon arrival, the chefs will be picked up by Mercedes Benz, the festival’s official car partner. Mercedes-Benz will also be driving the chef’s to and from the hotels to Dataran Merdeka for the duration of the three-day festival.
