Kuala Lumpur, Oct 11 – track distance as far as about 21km, the width of the island is only about 6km. Perhentian Island, Terengganu, promises cash prizes worth more than Rm55,000 on extreme sports tournament “Perhantian Island Challenge 2012 (PIC)”
Deputy Chairman of the committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts and Heritage State, Honorable Haji Wan Abdul Hakim bin Tan Sri Wan Mukhtar said the three day tournament is divided into three categories : Category International, national and village.
“A total of 347 participants including men and women from Kenya, the United States, Singapore, India, France, England, Turkey and Germany will participate in elite and novince class in all categories” he said at a press conference here today.
Participants had to run, swim, coastal runoff, climbing skills, tackle various obstacles and test the mind before heading to the finishing line at Bubu Resort
“They also enjoy its beautiful beaches, clear waters, abundant marine life and kwow the culture of the traditional fishing community there” he said.
The tournament which started since 2004 organized by the State Goverment and managed bu the PIC Adventures Sdn. The annual calendar of activities is domestic tourism.
He said the tournament full of challenges and fun that are part of promotional activities of the Visit Terengganu Year 2013

All these elements when combined with sports will produce sports tourism the potential tourism products and can foster a healty lifestyle to the residents of the island” said Wan Abdul Hakim.
In addition. The local community will benefit from this competition, business and employment oppurtunities to be created and more important as a source of income to the state and country.
