KUALA LUMPUR, MAY 2019 – Come meal time, wonderful aromas reminiscent of home emanate from EQ’s all-day-dining restaurant – NIPAH, beckoning hungry tummies with entrancing whiffs.

The introduction of Nostalgia Nipah initiative by the hotel this year reflects the return of EQ and Nipah Restaurant into Malaysian hospitality, and what better way to re-introduce once a market leader for Buka Puasa dinner with an invitation to bring back fond memories of the yesteryears with delicious classic dishes and homely ambience encircling the scene; a memory which blanketed guests and patrons in love, togetherness and comfort.

Nostalgia Nipah, which is a month-long programme scheduled from 06 May till 02 June 2019, provides a framework for EQ to showcase Nipah Restaurant throughout the month of Ramadan, offering extensive culinary delights that commemorate specialities from around Malaysia and abroad, with hospitality from the heart as the core to its service aim.

“A reunion to break fast exhumes sheer peace and joy when contentment and appreciation are being reflected with the presence of our loved ones. At EQ, we cater just the same environment for you to cherish your sweet memories and present acknowledgement within your family, colleagues and friends. The use of our signature Curry Laksa as Nostalgia Nipah icon represents a classic recipe that has been shared from the early days of Hotel Equatorial back in the 80s and has become one of the patrons’ favourite over 3 decades. As these classic favourites stand the test of time, we too hope to promote love, friendship and togetherness that would last a long time,” said Robert Lagerwey, General Manager of EQ.

EQ’s Chef de Cuisine Ali Tuwin remarked, Nostalgia Nipah, available daily throughout the holy month, will celebrate signature varieties often found in big Malaysian joyous events, such as weddings, open houses and street carnivals. Around the restaurant – inside or outside, our team of culinary enthusiasts will man a selection of live stations where you can get and replenish your fill, and sample dishes all you can – from the oxtail, beef, chicken or mutton soup stall, to the popular Roti Canai, Murtabak Ayam, Popiah Basah, or Rojak stalls, and not forgetting the sweet, colourful Ais Kacang.”

“Your Iftar journey will not be complete without feasting your eyes and appetite on a whole Roasted Lamb with a variety of spice rubs on different days. Adding more to that street festival feel, look out for the BBQ smoke coming out from the live Satay pits to find your favourite childhood Satay BBQ sticks prepared right in front of you,” enthused Chef Ali.

This fantastic line-up of live stalls will also be complemented by a full buffet spread indoors where diners can enjoy over 100 selections of dishes and ingredients to top off their feasting experience.

Other main dishes to look out for include the Briyani Gam, Daging Salai Masak Lemak, Ayam Goreng Berempah, Sambal Udang Petai, Ayam Tikka Masala, Ikan Kukus Pedas and many more. The journey will not be complete without a taste of EQ’s signature flavour – curry noodles (Mee Kari), created by one of the hotel’s pioneer chefs in the ’80s, where he insisted on using the shells of tiger prawns, together with heads so the roe would melt into the stock. Together with dried shrimp and a blend of secret herbs and spices, it is put on a slow simmer for four hours to create a rich gravy, consistent to hearty seafood chowder.

Seafood

Another not-to-be-missed section is the seafood-on-ice section with fresh mussels, tiger prawns and baby scallops on offer that will keep diners coming back for more.

Those with an eye on their health can toss up their own Ulam-Ulam Kampung and Kerabu Mangga, or pick from a variety of ready-made salads and vegetarian mains on offer. The variety of fish crackers, tapioca crackers, Papadoms, Kerepek Pisang and Ubi Kayu make for good snacking too.

Should one have room for desserts, a selection of cakes, cookies, and assorted Malay Kuih make for a sweet ending. Alternatively, have a bowl of refreshing Sago Gula Melaka, Bubur Pulut Hitam or Cendol Pulut. Both kids and adults will also find the ice cream – served in individual bowls, much to their liking. A variety of toppings and sauces are available, so just lather on whichever strikes your fancy.

Nostalgia Nipah will be supported through the hotel’s social media channels – Instagram and Facebook, utilizing hashtag #NostalgiaNipah as story-telling and interactive platforms, for guests to share their positive experience, reminiscence of Ramadan moments and inspiring stories.

“Through Nostalgia Nipah, we hope to promote, nurture and inspire togetherness, friendships, respect, kindness and love – all things that matter to the heart. This initiative will also give us the opportunity to be closer to our guests, and appreciate them for their support and camaraderie,” concluded Lagerwey.

Nostalgia Nipah is available daily from 06 May until 02 June 2019, 6.30pm to 10.30pm, priced as follows:
