GALERI PETRONAS launched a photography exhibition showcasing news images that have immortalised historical and significant moments in Malaysia for the past four decades.

The exhibition, entitled Capturing Malaysia through the Years – 40 Years of Press Photography, features 54 selected images taken through the lenses of photojournalists and featured in The Star newspaper since its inception. The images are divided into four categories: Newsmakers, Arts and Society, Sports, and Conflict and Disasters.

The exhibition is part of GALERI PETRONAS’ ongoing efforts to actively organise various art appreciation and educational programmes with the aim of inspiring and encouraging Malaysia’s own growing talent of photographers to continuously push boundaries in this form of art expression.

Encik Md. Arif Mahmood, Vice President, Corporate Strategic Planning, PETRONAS mentioned that GALERI PETRONAS has always advocated photography as an important art form and that the images showcased in the exhibition epitomise the artistic range, depth and versatility offered by press photography.

The images showcased in Capturing Malaysia through the Years – 40 Years of Press Photography were selected from a previously released photo book entitled HOTSHOTS: 40 years of great news images from The Star photographers, which is available at the GALERI Shop, next to GALERI PETRONAS.

The exhibition began on the 18th of January 2012 and continues until the 18th of March 2012 at GALERI PETRONAS, Level 3, KLCC.
