Celebrating 25 Years of the PETRONAS Twin Towers

The iconic PETRONAS Twin Towers – a national symbol of Malaysia’s architectural prowess and economic growth – turned 25 this year. To commemorate this significant milestone, a series of exciting art and cultural activities were held at PETRONAS Twin Towers Visit from 30 August until 1 September 2024, attracting over 4,000 visitors.

As part of the festivities, early bird attendees were treated to exclusive anniversary kits filled with cultural-themed door gifts. These kits, featuring Kopi O, Teh Tarik, and Cendol pouches, showcased Malaysia’s rich culinary heritage and added a touch of local flavour to the celebration.

The event started with a mini exhibition showcasing the stunning architectural photography of renowned local photographers, namely Siva Kumar, Aereon Wong, and Amri Ginang. Their works of art truly captured the majesty of the towers and the vibrant city that surrounds them, leaving us awe-struck and inspired.

One of the highlights of the celebration was the opportunity to walk across the Skybridge at Level 41, the world’s highest double-decker bridge connecting the towers. As we stepped onto the bridge, we felt a surge of adrenaline. We could see the bustling streets, the towering skyscrapers, and the expansive greeneries of KLCC Park, all laid out like a miniature cityscape. It was like being on top of the world!

The Observation Deck at Level 86 provides an even more mind-blowing perspective, allowing visitors to admire the city’s landmarks and study scale models of the Klang Valley. It was a fascinating experience to see familiar places represented in miniature and understand their relative distances.

The cultural activities held at Level 83 were also a delightful surprise. Watching demonstrations of traditional crafts like songket notebook-crafting, mengkuang-weaving and batik-painting brought us closer to Malaysia’s colourful cultural heritage. We were particularly captivated by the intricate patterns and vibrant hues of the songket fabrics. The batik artists, with their steady hands and deft strokes, transformed plain white cloth into works of art that were both beautiful and functional.

But that’s not all. We were also equally impressed by the exquisite handmade decoupage tiffins, which we knew would make the perfect souvenirs for both local and international visitors. Each tiffin is a miniature masterpiece, adorned with intricate designs and vibrant colours. The craftsmanship is evident in every detail, from the delicate floral patterns to the smooth, polished finish.

The event concluded with a photo opportunity at the Photo Box, allowing visitors to capture lasting memories of their visit.

Ezarisma Azni Mohamad, CEO of Petrosains Sdn. Bhd., expressed gratitude for the continued support from visitors worldwide. He emphasised that the silver jubilee celebration not only marked a significant milestone but also reflected the organisation’s commitment to sharing Malaysia’s pride with the world.
