DBKL Launches ‘KL Dekat Je’ Program To Boost Domestic Tourism

The Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Mhd Amin Nordin launched a travelling package “KL Dekat Je” at Sunway Putra Mall Kuala Lumpur on 15th October 2015. Attended the launch was YBhg Dato Azizan B. On the auspicious event, the KL Mayor mentioned on the decreasing volume of international guests to Malaysia itself due to the economic status and currency strength on the first quarter of 2015 by 8.6%. Kuala Lumpur itself had around 20% to 30% decrease in the hotel sector and the attractions recorded for the first 6 months in 2015.

Aligned with the 10.3 initiative in the KL Tourism Master Plan 2015-2025, ‘Develop KL-Specific Collaborative Marketing’-strong collaboration with industry players, associations and agencies- the right platform and network will be built to coordinate marketing and promotion efforts. DBKL has made the move to collaborate with Malaysia Association of Hotel (KL Chapter) KL City Gallery, KL Hop On Hop Off, Sutra Travel Management Companies and Tourism Malaysia in having a initiative tactical campaign for the domestic tourism market by introducing the ‘KL Dekat Je’ package.

“The main objective of the holiday package of KL Dekat Je is to stimulate the domestic tourism movement while making Kuala Lumpur as a top destination for the domestic tourists” said the KL Mayor. Its also and early move to explore the potential of the domestic tourism products that’s already available.

The ‘KL Dekat Je’ program is also an ‘aggressive drive campaign’ with a purpose to introduce the various new tourism products that’s around Kuala Lumpur that has international standards for the domestic market. One of them is the MUD Theater, that’s been directed by the infamous Datin Tiara Jaquelina. MUD Theater has even won awards for its outstanding performances by Trip Advisor as a must see show.

Also in the package, over 40 tourism visit spots by KL Hop On Hop Off is available in the package that’s attractive as the London Hop On Hop Off. The visit to KL City Gallery, which is the first gallery in Malaysia that has models of all the famous city skylines under one roof, to name a few, Tokyo, Seoul and many more.

For the first phase, their target sale is to achieve around 15,000 people with a value of RM400,000 which is not included with the outcome from the economic multiplying effect of the spending done by the tourists. DBKL has also collaborated with Tetuan Sutra Travel Management to integrate an system TravelCompute which uses the website of the DBKL Tourism www.visitkl.gov.my . It is specially designed to ease the purchasing of the packages available till 31st December 2015.
