“Owing to global economic conditions, exchange rate factors and policy changes, the performance of the local tourism and retail sectors has fallen short of expectations in recent months. In addition, the recent decision by the Central Government to replace the multiple-entry individual visit endorsements for permanent Shenzhen residents with once-a-week entry permits is expected to hit the local retail and catering sectors. This has prompted the related sectors to take immediate action and roll out the ‘HAPPY@hongkong Super JETSO’ campaign to encourage spending by visitors and local residents by providing them with a huge array of spending privileges. Among the attractive offers are half-price discounts on jewellery, buy one, get one free offers on wine, half-price admission to attractions, free dim sum at a Michelin-starred restaurant, and special offers on hotel buffets. We are keen to keep expanding the campaign and welcome merchants who are interested in taking part to contact us,” said Dr Simon Kwok, Chairman of the QTSA.

“The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) fully supports the ‘HAPPY@hongkong Super JETSO’ campaign. We will use part of the additional funding of HK$80 million granted by the government in 2015-16 to roll out two spending-stimulation promotion phases in partnership with the trade. First, we will launch a series of advertising and publicity-generation programmes to support the campaign. Then we will intensify our annual summer promotion from June to August. In particular, we will spend more resources in visitor source markets, especially short-haul ones, to promote Hong Kong and uphold the city’s hospitable image. To enrich our summer promotion, we will give out a variety of visitor offers from the travel trade and organise a large-scale lucky draw. Details will be announced in due course,” said Dr Peter Lam, Chairman of the HKTB.
