i-City, August 2, 2024: i-City, Malaysia No. 1 Digital City is set to play a pivotal role in achieving Visit Selangor 2025 goals by attracting an estimated 5 million visitors next year. This significant contribution is expected to help Selangor surpass its target of 7 million tourists, further solidifying the state as a premier travel destination.
Today, at the groundbreaking ceremony for SkyCity today, the first of its kind attraction in Malaysia, Chairman of i-City Selangor, Datuk Seri Tengku Ahmad Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin, said that with the accelerated growth of Bleisure activities in Shah Alam, DoubleTree by Hilton, which is the only one with 5-star DoubleTree in the Hilton Worldwide group, is thriving and is now popular destination is Shah Alam. i-City’s CNN-acclaimed City of Digital Lights, Thailand’s first mall in Malaysia – Central i-City, and various other attractions at City Walk such as Digital Sports Arena, Snowalk, among others cumulatively draw significant annual tourism footfall of local and international travellers.
“We believe that SkyCity will be the cherry on top of the cake. By offering unparalleled experiences, we are confident that i-City will draw 5 million visitors from around the globe next year, contributing significantly to the success of Visit Selangor Year 2025’s 7 million tourists goal,” Tengku Ahmad said.
He added that the 60-meter tower decorated with LED lights and complete with a 600-meter glass slide is expected to open to public on December 11, 2024 to celebrate His Royal HighnessSultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah ibni Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah’s birthday.
To give the state-wide tourism campaign a meaningful prelude, i-City will carry out extensive promotions and expects that the attraction that allows visitors the experience of “swimming in the sky and flying in the water” will be a main draw next year for both locals and international visitors.
Selangor Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, who officiated the groundbreaking ceremony this morning said that the 60-meter tower with 600-meter glass slide is slated to become a landmark attraction in Shah Alam.
Emphasising the economic impact of tourism on Selangor’s GDP, Amiruddin said, “Selangor covered over a quarter of the country’s GDP in 2024. The tourism services sector was identified as a key driver of Selangor’s economy with a contribution of 26.5% to the state’s GDP. Tourism products such as SkyCity are important to move the tourism services sector.
He added that the addition of SkyCity into Shah Alam’s skyline visible from the Federal Highway has the potential to attract troves of tourists into the vicinity daily.
