On 15 May 2015, the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC) announced the return of Magic of the Night, a four-day event, from 28 until 31 May 2015, at the Putrajaya Marina, Putrajaya.

Visitors to the event will have the chance to witness a total of 17 decorated boats every night throughout the event, consisting of entries from every state in Malaysia, including Putrajaya Corporation, Tourism Malaysia and a special entry from Suzhou, China.

The decorated flotillas will be competing in four different categories: Best Overall Boat, Most Decorative Boat, Best Lighted Boat and Most Popular Boat, the last to be determined through public voting, which can be done via the official MOTAC Facebook page ( from 12:01 a.m. on 29 May until 12:00 a.m. on 30 May 2015.


One of the highlights of Magic of the Night is the ‘Drumming Up the Magical Night’ special performance by the Malaysian Traditional Orchestra and the 1Malaysia Drumming Group. The mascot for the Malaysia Year of Festivals (MyFest) 2015, the Proboscis Monkey known as Bayau, will also make a special appearance, amidst the planned fireworks happening every night.

There will also be the Magic of the Night 2015 Photography Competition hosted by MOTAC. The competition will be from 28 to 29 May 2015, and entrants can send in their entries by hand or CD at the MOTAC 2015 Photography competition submissions counter that will be opened on 29 May from 8:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the Putrajaya Marina.

Additionally, the public is encouraged to participate in the Magic of the Night 2015 Selfie competition on Instagram with the hashtag #MOTNSelfie2015. A combined total of RM13,800 in cash prizes awaits the winners of these two competitions. Information for both competitions could be obtained from MOTAC’s official website

MOTAC will also organise a food festival through the Fabulous Food event, which will highlight an iconic specialty dish from every state in Malaysia. Visitors can look forward to culinary delights, such as Burger Bakar, Nasi Kerabu, Nasi Dagang, Otak-otak, Pepes, Satay and more. There will also be an interactive exhibition and children’s games.


The official ceremony will be held on 29 May 2015 (Friday) by the Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia, YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Tan Sri Abdul Aziz, while the prize giving ceremony will be completed by the Federal Territories Minister, YB Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor on 31 May 2015 (Sunday).

Magic of the Night 2015 at the Putrajaya Marina will be from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Admission is free.
