Petrosains PlaySmart centres are mini science centres designed to replicate the experience of the main science centre in Suria KLCC, while providing accessible STEM learning programmes and exhibitions to local communities. By bringing Sci-POP to Johor and Pahang, Petrosains seeks to ensure that communities out of the Klang Valley can access the same quality of science engagement as those in the main city of Kuala Lumpur.
In addition, Petrosains has acquired 38 portable Sci-POP exhibits to expand its nationwide outreach programmes. These exhibits will be mobilised, taking interactive STEM experiences directly to communities and strengthening efforts to democratise science education across Malaysia.
Chief Executive Officer of Petrosains Sdn. Bhd., Ezarisma Azni Mohamad said: “This exhibition truly embodies the vision of ‘Where Science Meets Pop Culture.’ By leveraging Malaysia’s vibrant enthusiasm for Korean pop culture, we are creating a platform where science is not only accessible but also engaging, inspiring, and fun. This milestone highlights the significance of international collaboration between two institutions from two different regions in making science education relevant and enjoyable.”
The Sci-POP Exhibition is the first major outcome of the Memorandum of Understanding signed on 27 March 2025 between Petrosains and Gwacheon National Science Museum. More than just an exhibition, it reflects a strategic partnership to promote lifelong learning, foster inclusivity, and integrate culture into science communication. It also provides opportunities for cross-border knowledge sharing, with experts from Gwacheon National Science Museum training Petrosains’ science communicators and equipping them with new tools and approaches to engage audiences more effectively.
President of Gwacheon National Science Museum, Han Hyung-Joo said: “This collaborative exhibition marks a meaningful first step in fostering cooperation between nations through science and culture. Moving forward, we will continue to work with Petrosains to share the joy and value of science with more people, and to nurture curiosity and creativity among future generations worldwide.”
