On 3 July 2015, Tourism Selangor and Cadbury Malaysia joined forces in treating 48 orphaned children from Rumah Kebajikan Baitul Hidayah and Persatuan Anak-anak Yatim dan Ibu Tunggal Kampung Medan to baju raya shopping at Tesco Mutiara Damansara and buka puasa at Royale Chulan Damansara, supported by volunteers from both organisations.
Each child was paired with an adult volunteer, allowing both of them to bond and know each other better. For the child, it was also an opportunity to socially interact with adults who are not from the home, which is important for their development.
After shopping, the children engaged in fun activities organised by Cadbury while waiting for the time to break fast. The volunteers also dined with the children to continue bonding with them.
“This year is Visit Selangor Year 2015 and we are very excited to bring cheer to the underprivileged children as part of our corporate social responsibility efforts. We want to contribute to the community and we have always wanted to do more for orphanages in and around Selangor, so this was the perfect opportunity, said Puan Noorul Ashikin Mohd Din, General Manager of Tourism Selangor Sdn Bhd.
The children received cash gifts from Tourism Selangor and each orphanage received donations from the organisation.
Cadbury meanwhile contributed a portion of the proceeds from their recent Joy Sale towards the event in the form of Tesco vouchers worth RM250 for each child to spend. The children had fun selecting raya clothes to their own liking.
