Exciting Finals of Liga Layar Malaysia Expected Tomorrow

Masyuri Rahmat and his Royal Malaysian Navy Match Racing Team 1 versus Jeremy Koo, skipper of Koo Racing Team in the Liga Layar Malaysia final on Monday
PULAU DUYONG, KUALA TERENGGANU – It is Masyuri Rahmat and his Royal Malaysian Navy Match Racing Team 1 versus Jeremy Koo, skipper of Koo Racing Team in the Liga Layar Malaysia final on Monday after the competition saw some exciting duels in Sunday’s second round robin and semi-finals match-ups.
However, it was Masyuri who stole the limelight from Koo during the second round robin as he skippered his way to six wins out of six, just as Koo had done during the first round robin on Saturday.
Koo, who was the previous winner of the Malaysian Match Racing Championship, will be wary of Masyuri’s challenge in the final as he looks to defend his title again.
“I made some mistakes today and at some point I was disappointed with my handling. But as I have said yesterday after the first round robin where I won all matches, I do not put expectations to win everything.
“It will be the same approach for me tomorrow in the final. Hopefully, I make less mistakes this time,” said Koo, at a press conference after the semi-finals on Sunday.
Masyuri meanwhile is hoping that the weather conditions will be in his team’s favour during the final as he aims to pip Koo to be the final wild card entry and represent Malaysia in the Monsoon Cup. Considered as one of the most prestigious events on the tour, the Monsoon Cup is the season finale of the 2013 Alpari World Match Racing Tour (AWMRT) series, scheduled to take place from 25th November until 30 November 2013 in Pulau Duyong, Terengganu.
“We are relishing meeting Jeremy in the final and we hope to improve our handling and not make the mistakes we did today.
“Of course we hope we can win, but during a match anything can happen, as the weather can be unpredictable. Like today, the wind shifts and the tricky currents made it quite challenging, so we will only know tomorrow if we can beat Jeremy’s team,” said Masyuri.
Maysuri leads the second round robin table today with 10 points alongside Koo. Meanwhile Mohd Saifullah Mohd Esa of MSNT Sailing Team and Hazwan Dermawan of Permai Hotel Match Racing Team made the remaining semi-finals spots.
Liga Layar Malaysia is based on the same format of AWMRT – the winner of the race books a place as the representative of Malaysia in the Monsoon Cup. The Ministry of Youth and Sports, through the National Sports Council and in collaboration with the Malaysian Yachting Association, spearheads the implementation of this league as part of its initiatives to further develop the sports of sailing.
Semi finals results:
Jeremy Koo (Koo Racing Team) beat Hazwan Dermawan (Permai Hotel Match Racing Team);
Masyuri Rahmat (Royal Malaysian Navy Match Racing Team 1) beat Mohd Saifullah Mohd Esa (MSNT Sailing Team).
