Indulge in a Chic Afternoon Tea Inspired by BVLGARI at Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur
If there’s one ritual I’ll never tire of, it’s gathering the girl gang for a long-overdue catch-up. And what better stage for laughter, life updates, and the occasional whispered gossips than over an afternoon tea? Delicious nibbles, a dazzling setting, and good company: this is the recipe for a good time, isn’t it?
My latest discovery? The Allegra Afternoon Tea, a collaboration between Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur and BVLGARI that promises not just indulgence, but glamour served on a silver platter. Perched high above the city at Horizon Grill on Level 58, the experience begins before the first bite. The city’s skyline stretches dramatically before you the moment you arrive, with the PETRONAS Twin Towers standing tall in the distance, almost as if they too are part of the guest list.
The affair begins with a sparkling welcome, literally. The Fantasia Veneta, a zesty blend of peach purée, lemon juice, and soda, arrives like sunshine in a glass. Perhaps I’m biased (peach has always been my soft spot), but this sprightly refresher feels like the perfect overture. My friend agrees, declaring it the sort of drink one could sip endlessly on a hot day.
Hakim, our ever-charming waiter, takes our orders for additional drinks. I opt for an iced latte because sometimes, a girl just needs her caffeine fix, while my partner selects the Rose with French Vanilla Ceylon Black Tea, fragrant and deeply soothing. Both are endlessly refillable, which is a thoughtful touch and particularly appreciated when one intends to linger.
Then the scones arrive, heralded by the heavenly scent of butter and warmth. There are two varieties: plain and raisin, each baked to perfection with a flaky exterior giving way to a tender, cloud-like middle. They arrive with classic clotted cream and a tangy berry jam. So, so good. I’ll admit, I am tempted to order a couple more servings. But wisdom prevailed as there are dainty delights yet to come.
And come they did. The three-tiered stand makes its entrance, each tier a miniature runway of jewel-like creations inspired by BVLGARI’s Allegra fragrances. Eight savoury and sweet bites later, we are smitten. My personal favourite? Spettacolore, a petite taco filled with truffle, mushrooms, and parmesan, as rich and decadent as the perfume it’s modelled after. My companion is equally enraptured by the Riva Solare, a bright marriage of almond sable, mandarin, and the addictive coffee mousse that disappears far too quickly for its own good.
What elevates the entire afternoon, beyond the view and the bites, is the service. Attentive without hovering, the staff know their craft, happily explaining each creation while giving us space to chatter away.
The Allegra Afternoon Tea is available daily (for a limited time) from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., priced at MYR 148 nett per person. A small price to pay for an afternoon where luxury, friendship, and a hint of Italian glamour converge high above the Kuala Lumpur skyline.
