RAF TYPHOON AIRCRAFT

The UK will continue to maintain its traditional presence at the Langkawi International Maritime and Airshow which it has strongly supported since its launch by Tun Mahathir in 1991.

The UK presence will be spearheaded by the RAF Typhoon aircraft from 1 Squadron Royal Air Force, the newest RAF squadron to be established with Typhoon, who will deploy some 9300 miles to Malaysia in March to participate in LIMA 2013, the first official displays of the 2013 season.

The display pilot Flight Lieutenant Jamie Norris, from 29 Squadron Royal Air Force (the Typhoon Operational Conversion Unit) is looking forward to putting the Typhoon through its paces.

The Typhoon aircraft will be supported by a strong delegation led by Philip Dunne MP, Minister for Defence Equipment, Support and Technology accompanied by senior staff from the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.

Historically LIMA has provided an opportunity for UK companies to promote their capabilities in both the defence and security sectors and secure lasting industrial partnerships with major Malaysian industries.

Mr Dunne said: “I am looking forward to working with the Malaysian Government to achieve its 2020 development aims and to strengthen our relationship, encouraging cooperation across the defence and security sectors. I am committed to creating the ideal environment for UK and Malaysian companies to work together more closely to build a strong industrial base”.
