i-City (Shah Alam), 22 November 2013 – i-City, a premier tourist hotspot in the State of Selangor, has received ‘a pat on the back’ for its all-out effort to improvise its leisure offerings in anticipation of Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2014.

En Arshad Mustapa, the Selangor State Director for the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, has credited Red Carpet @i-City, Malaysia’s first interactive All-Star wax museum, for becoming a hit with visitors from near and far since its opening in August this year.

“The RM25 million attraction has become the talk of the town by visitors from near and far,” En Arshad points out. “Thanks to the Red Carpet, the visitor count to i-City is expected to surge by 30% this year, which in the long run, augurs well for the Selangor State’s economy given our increasing dependency on tourism-driven revenue.”

On a similar note, En Arshad also praised the management of i-City for continuously exploring ways and means to boost interest in its 25-acre theme park and a host of leisure attractions. i-City has been endorsed as a Tourism Destination by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.

“i-City has been exemplary in terms of private sector support towards VMY 2014 which has been acknowledged as a mega event in Malaysia’s tourism calendar,” explains En Arshad. “It has taken numerous initiatives to step up a gear to the extent of channeling new investments to upgrade its existing attractions as well as introducing newer attractions that can pull in the crowd.

Also commending i-City is the Tourism Malaysia State Director for Selangor and Putrajaya En Mohamed Nor Ismail who emphasises that i-City has been greatly responsible in putting Shah Alam as a rising tourist destination in Selangor.

“In fact, i-City has been synonymous with the tourism boon in Shah Alam. Majority of tourists who head to Shah Alam are likely to make a stop-over at i-City,” he suggests.

VMY 2014 is expected to attract a new record of 28 million international tourists arrivals and RM76 billion in tourist receipts next year.

Meanwhile, an array of programmes has been lined up for the year-end as a precursor to usher in VMY 2014. They are:

  • Nov 29-Dec 1: Cuti-Cuti 1 Malaysia Night Travel Fair (CC1M) 2013 (Venue: Citywalk @i-City)
  • Dec 22: Miss Tourism International 2013/14 from 60 countires Meet & Greet (Venue: Red Carpet @i-City)

Cuti-Cuti 1 Malaysia Night Travel Fair 2013

The three-day fair which runs from 5pm to 12 midnight may just be an ideal venue to find a holiday package that suits one’s taste and budget to truly immerse in the sights and sounds of Malaysia.

Organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, this will be the third consecutive year the event is held in i-City. It is intended to encourage Malaysians to discover the magic of their homeland and at the same time introduce the colours of Malaysia to international tourists.

For the record, i-City has been recognised by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture as Malaysia’s first night travel destination.

To encourage domestic tourism, 10 exhibitors comprising local tourism agencies, hoteliers, transportation companies and homestay operators will offer various tourism products for sale at affordable and competitive pricing.

A  MATIC mobile truck will be on site to to disseminate various information related to the promotion and marketing of tourism-related activities in both the State of Selangor and the country as a whole.

Aside from sales and exhibitions, other activities taking place throughout the three-day event include:

  • Red Carpet @i-City Stars Meet and Greet (8.30pm & 10.30pm)
  • House of Horror photography session (9.00pm & 11.00pm)
  • WaterWorld Games & Activities

As for i-City’s key attractions, tickets for Red Carpet @i-City are up for grabs from RM30 onwards for MyKad holders, while those of House of Horror @i-City are priced at RM15 per entry.
