Sunway Resort Celebrates Merdeka & Malaysia Day with a Special Nasi Lemak Menu

This Merdeka and Malaysia Day, Sunway Resort celebrates our national dish, ‘Nasi Lemak’ with a special Nasi Lemak menu to complement their signature Lunch and Dinner Buffets at The Resort Café from 15th August to 16th September 2022.

Nasi lemak was first mentioned as early as 1909 by Richard Olaf Winstedt in his book, ‘The Circumstances of Life’ and it also appeared in a 1935 article stating that the dish was available at the Kuala Lumpur Malay Market in Kampung Bahru. In the 1970s, traditional Nasi Lemak packets wrapped in banana leaves were much smaller than those sold today and were often sold door-to-door by travelling vendors. Since the 1980s, the humble dish has gradually evolved to include a greater variety of accompaniments besides the standard anchovies, sambal and cucumber slices.

In celebration of Merdeka and Malaysia day, step back in time at The Resort Café and savour Chef De Cuisine Afiq Matkhir and Sous Chef Nora Yusof’s unique Nasi Lemak menu featuring traditional favourites like the Nasi Lemak Pandan inspired by Peranakan cuisine, the Nasi Lemak Kuning Royal originating from Kedah, the Nasi Lemak Bunga Telang from Kelantan and of course, the original, Nasi Lemak Putih.

Incomplete without a Sambal, the Nasi Lemak Buffet will also highlight traditionally slow-cooked Sambal Bawang, Sambal Nyonya, Sambal Ikan Masin and Sambal Jering complemented with a variety of fried anchovies of many varieties including Ikan Bilis Mata Biru Pangkor from the waters of Perak, Ikan Bilis Bulu Ayam, a freshwater anchovy, Ikan Bilis Tawau from Sabah and Ikan Bilis Putih or White Bait.

Add on more flavour with an array of hot dishes, from Fermented Soybean Sambal with Lemongrass and Quail Eggs, to the mouth-watering Nyonya Fresh Water Prawn Curry, Spice-grilled Chicken with ‘Percik’ Sauce, traditional Beef Lung Sambal and more.

For guests who prefer to enjoy the Nasi Lemak as an a la carte, The Resort Café will be presenting a ‘Build Your Own Nasi Lemak’ style menu where guests can create their bespoke Nasi Lemak.

The Merdeka and Malaysia Day Buffet Lunch is priced at MYR138.00 nett from Monday to Saturday and MYR168.00 nett on Sundays whilst the Buffet Dinner is priced at MYR198.00 nett on Friday and Saturday nights.
