The Luma Hotel Unveils Collaboration with Mj by MUS

Kota Kinabalu, 29 November 2021 – As a local boutique company, Mj by MUS is socially responsible in creating a financial platform for the rural communities to produce fashion, accessories and handcraft products from Sabah. The boutique company promotes local products infused with local ethnics’ motif while maintaining the authenticity of the local community designs. Kota Kinabalu’s first design hotel, The LUMA Hotel, shares the same mission with Mj by MUS to promote local arts and provide better opportunities to local talents.

Both parties believe that Sabah consists of many talented individuals and natural resources that have yet to be developed to fulfil the market demands. Therefore, the hotel has decided to form a collaboration with Mj by MUS to design scarfs for its hotel employees as a compliment to their uniforms.

The hotel employees’ scarfs are inspired from the traditional headgear (sigal) commonly worn by the Rungus people during official ceremonies or cultural activities. The Rungus is one of the many ethnics in Sabah. Decorated with embroidery, the motifs found on the sigal are inspired by flora and fauna. The neutral colours selected for the scarfs match the hotel’s interior design elements, which is mostly inspired by Sabah’s beautiful nature, providing warmth and fresh feeling experiences.

The hotel emphasises on Borneo rainforest in its design elements, decorating styles and uniforms. The hotel’s uniforms, which consist of a green blouse and khaki pants are the perfect representation of Sabah’s tropical rainforest. The authenticity of The LUMA Hotel’s uniforms and scarfs will promote a sense of belonging among all employees, allowing them to serve guests better and make them feel like home the LUMA way.
