The RuMa Hotel and Residences Achieves Excellence in Sustainability With Global Sustainability Tourism Council Certification
Kuala Lumpur – The RuMa Hotel and Residences (The RuMa) is proud to be recognised by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) for our ongoing efforts towards sustainability, thus becoming the first hotel in Peninsular Malaysia to receive the esteemed certification.
From introducing solutions to reduce environmental impact to incorporating preservation of Malaysian culture and heritage within the hotel’s design and supporting local vendors, The RuMa is committed to environmental stewardship, social responsibility, cultural preservation, and sustainable management.
“Receiving the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) certification is a momentous achievement for The RuMa Hotel and Residences and a testament to our unwavering commitment to sustainable and responsible tourism. We are incredibly proud to be the first hotel in Peninsular Malaysia to earn this esteemed recognition as this milestone marks a significant step in our journey toward a more sustainable and resilient future. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated team and loyal guests who have been instrumental in making this achievement possible,” comments Daniyal Ng, Hotel Manager at The RuMa Hotel and Residences.
The GSTC certification is a globally recognized standard for sustainable tourism, emphasizing the importance of balancing economic, social, and environmental considerations in the tourism industry. The certification process involves a rigorous evaluation of a hotel’s policies, practices, and impacts, ensuring that it meets the highest standards for sustainability. The GSTC certification is an effort to promote the concept of sustainability in the tourism sector through the practical implementation of basic principles and requirements which reduce the impact on the environment, highlight the local cultural heritage and optimise social and economic benefits for the local communities.
The RuMa’s dedication to the cause will continue beyond this milestone with more sustainability initiatives in the pipeline for 2024. These include the introduction of glass water bottles in every room by January, as well as EV charging stations within the first quarter of the year. The RuMa will also be switching to Balmain Signature refillable bathroom amenities, an exclusive collection developed together with ADA Cosmetics for luxury hotels.
