A Tribal Collaboration

The Selangor International Indigenous Art Festival 2016 (SIIAF) is back on 6 to 8 August 2016 at Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam, Selangor with an array of exciting activities scheduled to interest the visitors.

Running for its second year, the festival is organised by Tourism Selangor and Jaringan Orang Asal SeMalaysia (JOAS), with collaboration from Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) and supports by Taman Botani, MBSA, FAMA, Asyik.FM and Bertindak Tanah Orang Asli (BBTOAS).

“In many countries, indigenous tribes continue to remain a mystery, unknown to the larger population. In our quest to become developed and progressive nations, we should not forget these communities and their rights over their lands,” said Puan Noorul Ashikin Mohd. Din, General Manager of Tourism Selangor.

Also, this festival will give 21 indigenous tribes across Malaysia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand, The Philippines and Vietnam a platform to promote their culture and heritage tourism in Selangor.

Some of the highlights for this year include appearances and cultural performances by indigenous tribes, exhibitions, traditional food tastings, fruit fiesta by FAMA and a special surprise from the well-known Mah Meri tribe. There will also be food trucks serving food and drinks for all visitors alike. Those who are skilled in photography can join the photography contest throughout the festival to win some serious prizes.
