Melaka, Malaysia, 12 April 2012 With the rapid nationwide development under the Economic Transformation Plan (ETP), Landscape Architects play an important role, ensuring each development is balanced with green spaces and conducive outdoor environments, while at the same time keeping environmental impact at bay. It was once again a proud moment for Philea Resort and Spa by adding another feather in its cap with their latest award, EXCELLENCE AWARD in the PROFESSIONAL CATEGORY for EXCELLENT LANDSCAPE DESIGN AND PLANNING, awarded by the MALAYSIA LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE AWARD (MLAA) 2011.

Spanning over 15 acres, strategically located in the fast-developing Ayer Keroh in Melaka and wholly owned by Majestic Hotels and Resorts Sdn Bhd, the 5 Star Philea Resort & Spa is an extraordinary resort built utilizing natural Malaysian made resources, including 8,000 pieces and more than 6,000 tons of marble from Perak as block fencing. Recycled materials from shipwrecks used as furniture in the lobby.“In keeping with the time that calls for the practice of environmentally responsible standards, we have specially planned and planted more than 3,000 trees within our award winning ‘Best Green Resort’ to conserve and restore the natural resources which are complemented with a man-made waterfall,” mentioned Ronald Choong, General Manager of Philea Resort and Spa Melaka.

“The selection of finishes and materials played an important role in creating the design intention, which is more rural feel. Nature elements which blend with the natural setting of the environment have been carefully placed in the creation of the landscape elements. In addition, the plant selection is based on a 50-50 ratio of common and rare species in order to instill surprise and inspiration for the visitors,” mentioned LAr. Khoo Eng Kee, the resort’s appointed Landscape Architect.“With a total of 201 rooms which consists of 180 units of Pavilion Rooms, each block is specifically designed to resemble a village with panoramic views of the whole resort. The stunning effect resulted in Philea being awarded as the “First Log Resort” and “The Largest Log Resort by the Malaysia Book of Records; the “Best Green Resort” by Melaka Tourism Association; “Creative Industry Brand of the Year” by Global Golden Brand Award and most recently the “Excellent Award for Landscape Design and Planning” by the Malaysia Landscape Architecture Award 2011, mentioned Connie Chin, Director of Marketing Communications of Philea Resort and Spa Melaka.

As Philea Resort and Spa emphasizes on the importance and comfort of their guests, they will continue to strive to make this a unique resort to all guests. Meanwhile, our sincere appreciation goes to our Project Team, Melia Teguh Sdn Bhd, Lumbini Consultancy, Johnny Ooi Architect and also, LAr. Khoo Eng Kee and LAr. Ho Peng Ming for this award. The event was held at a hotel in Kuala Lumpur last Saturday.
