Malaysia Airports reassures all passengers that its airports are safe and well-prepared following the latest implementation of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) enabling the reopening of the country’s tourism and domestic flight routes. The organisation will give its fullest support to its airline partners and retailers in ensuring all safety measures are carried out vigilantly across its network of airports as well as ramping up the readiness of all airport staff in operating in the new normal of air travel.
According to the group chief executive officer of Malaysia Airports, Dato’ Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh, the much improved situation in the country with regard to COVID-19 infection, recovery and management as well as the easing of restrictions is expected to result in a travel surge compared to the previous months. In anticipation of this, Dato’ Mohd Shukrie said the airport operator is committed to give our utmost support to the airlines to resume more and more of their local flight offerings. He added further, “We also want to provide assurance to the passengers that they can travel safely and seamlessly as our airports are prepared with safety measures fully rolled out throughout the airport journey. Our main aim is to facilitate a safe and welcoming passenger flow for both departing and arriving guests. From focusing on strict social distancing measures to ensuring the availability of personal protection equipment, we serve to complement our airline partners’ new safety protocols as well.”
Passengers will also be additionally protected on the health and safety aspects as they can look forward to a contactless airport experience with the implementation of facial recognition technology, contactless security screening at check-points and sneeze guard protectors at counters while our on-ground safety compliance officers patrol the terminals to ensure social distancing is practised responsibly by passengers at all times.
Malaysia Airports is also working closely with its retailers not only by ensuring a sanitised environment but also urging the full adoption of electronic payments via mobile payment apps such as Boost, Touch ‘n Go, Grab Pay, mPAY and Samsung Pay to name a few so that guests can safely shop with total peace of mind. The airport operator is also highly supportive of government’s efforts in facilitating contact tracing by enforcing the implementation of the contact tracing application ‘SELangkah’ by the Selangor state government by all airport retailers.
“We are supporting our retail partners in reopening their stores in a safe manner. On top of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) on sanitisation and temperature checking, outlet layouts are also changed for social distancing enforcement. We want to make airport retail experience easier, safer and better for our passengers and the airport community,” said Mohd Shukrie.
Mohd Shukrie also mentioned that the specially formed COVID-19 committee comprising airport management, the government agencies and related stakeholders are constantly kept abreast on the latest facilities and services provided at other airports around the world. Currently, the committee is looking at further enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of disinfection exercises through automation and UV light technologies that will be installed at passenger heavy areas such as washrooms, baggage reclaim and immigration clearance counters. The UV light robot, on the other hand, will be mobilised at public areas to ensure thorough disinfection is carried out throughout the terminal.

Our airports across the nation have undergone full disinfection exercises organised by the local Fire and Rescue Department unit.
Mohd Shukrie added that “As passengers adjust to the new normal of travelling, it’s imperative that all parties strictly adhere to all the procedures and work together to curb the spread of the virus by being vigilant and responsible together.”
