KUALA LUMPUR, 31 JULY 2024 – Batik Air is excited to unveil its latest routes from Kuala  Lumpur to four more Wonderful Indonesia’s destinations, expanding Batik Air Malaysia’s network  to a total of eight Indonesian cities. 

Travellers can embark on unforgettable journeys to the enchanting island of Lombok starting today, 31st July 2024, followed by the inaugural route to the vibrant city of Surabaya on 1st August. Additionally, flights to the bustling city of Pekanbaru and the scenic city of Padang will commence on August 10th, 2024. 

These new routes will significantly enhance connectivity between Malaysia and Indonesia, providing travellers with more options to explore Indonesia’s diverse attractions.

Batik Air will be operating 14 weekly flights to Surabaya, four weekly flights to Lombok, and seven weekly flights each to Pekanbaru and Padang. These routes provide convenient access to Indonesia’s vibrant destinations. 

Renowned for its pristine beaches and rich cultural heritage, Lombok beckons both leisure and business travellers. Visitors can explore stunning landscapes, including the renowned Mount Rinjani, dive in crystal-clear waters, and delve into the unique Sasak culture. The island promises an unforgettable experience for all who journey there. 

Surabaya, known as Indonesia’s second-largest city, is a bustling metropolis with a rich historical  background. It’s a key commercial hub, making it an attractive destination especially for business  travellers. Situated on Sumatra island, Pekanbaru is a city rich in cultural heritage Known for its diverse cultural sites, offering visitors a glimpse into the traditional Sumatran way of life. Batik Air Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, stated that the new routes will foster stronger ties between Malaysia and Indonesia by promoting greater cultural and economic exchange. This will further expand travel opportunities, facilitating increased tourism and business engagements between the two nations. 

“Expanding our network not only meets the growing demand for travel but also supports economic  growth by facilitating smoother business transactions and partnerships,” he commented, noting that the routes are expected to stimulate trade and investment opportunities. 

Additionally, he emphasised KLIA’s strategic role as a pivotal Umrah hub, serving as a transit point for pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia for Umrah, especially those from Southeast Asia. Currently, Batik Air is operating direct flights to Jeddah and will soon commence flights to Madinah in August.  

“With the addition of these new routes, KLIA’s connectivity and capacity are further enhanced, offering more convenient options for pilgrims and boosting its status as a major international transit hub,” he said.
