Breakout Melaka Review: Wonderland Escape Room, Spy Game for Kids & Top Themes
Let me start by saying this: I do not mess with ghosts! The moment when I encounter texts that include the words “haunted”, “possessed,” or anything that remotely resembles a horror film, I’m out. Which is why when I visited Breakout Melaka, I quickly made a beeline for the one room that promised whimsiness instead of weeping walls: Wonderland.
And let me tell you, it was a great choice!
Wonderland: Whimsical, Weird, and 100% Not Scary

The whole room felt like falling into a dream, if it came with hidden puzzles, glowing artefacts, and slightly chaotic clocks. According to the backstory, time in Wonderland has come to a standstill because someone (probably the White Rabit, I think) lost a magic flower. Your job? Find it and place it back to where it belongs.
Wonderland is colourful, fun, and doesn’t take itself too seriously, which is great if you just want to enjoy an escape room without breaking into a cold sweat. It’s also beginner-friendly with a success rate of 70%, and even my not-so-logical brain had a few triumphant “Aha!” moments.
Perfect for first-timers, families, or anyone who prefers fairytales over fright nights.
Spy Game Junior: The Mini Spy School, You Wish You Had as a Kid

Right next to Wonderland is another challenge called Spy Game Junior, which is cooler and louder. It’s a specially designed experience for children aged 4 to 12, and if I’m being honest- it kind of stole the show.
Instead of puzzles and padlocks, Spy Game Junior is all about stealth and action. There are eight missions to complete in 60 minutes: laser dodging, surveillance camera scanning, agility balancing, code-cracking- just to name a few. It’s like a little Mission: Impossible for children, minus Tom Cruise dangling from the ceiling.
What makes it extra awesome?
- Parents can join in, or just sit back and cheer from the sidelines.
- You get a scoreboard at the end- because bragging rights matter.
- They even send you a gameplay video so you can reply to your child’s spy saga at every family dinner.
Pricing:
- RM119 for 2 players
- RM249 for up to 6 players (Super Saver option)
You’re basically paying for an hour-long action movie starring your child!
What Else Can You Escape From?
Not into Wonderland? Prefer mystery, suspense, or something with a darker twist? Breakout Melaka has a few more themes up its sleeve, and each one offers a completely different vibe:
The Missing Case of Melaka

Themed around a local twist in a detective story, this room feels like a noir crime drama set in the heart of historic Melaka, It’s immersive, a little creepy, and great for players who love solving a mystery based on scattered clues.
- Difficulty: Intermediate
- Success Rate: 60%
- Best for: Puzzle lovers and local mystery fans
- Available in Malay language
Section 13

Sci-fi fans, this one’s for you. Set in a top-secret government lab where something has gone terribly wrong (as it always does), you and your team need to uncover the truth before the facility goes into lockdown. There are some seriously clever puzzles in here-just enough stress to get your heart racing, but not terrifying.
- Difficulty: Advanced
- Success Rate: 45%
- Best for: Sci-fi nerds and competitive teams who hate losing
- Available in Chinese language
Capsule

This one plays with time travel, and yes, it’s just as cool as it sounds. You’ll need to fix time anomalies, hop through past and present, and make sure you don’t mess with the timeline too much (no pressure). It’s challenging but extremely satisfying once you piece everything together.
- Difficulty: Moderate to Advanced
- Success Rate: 55%
- Best for: Teams who love a narrative-heavy game with clever mechanics
Why You Should Go
Breakout Melaka surprised me in the best way. Whether you’re looking for light-hearted escape (Wonderland), a detective thriller (Missing Case), a sci-fi (Capsule), there’s something for every kind of adventurer. And if you’ve got children with endless energy and a flair for drama, Spy Game Junior will absolutely blow their socks off!
You’ll laugh, maybe yell (in a fun way), and definitely talk about it all the way home. All in all, a truly memorable experience…
