DUBAI, November 1: In conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2014 and resumption of Malaysia Airlines flights to Dubai, Tourism Malaysia and Malaysia Airlines hosted a Gala Dinner at the Grand Hyatt Dubai in which Malaysian cuisine and culture were showcased recently.
Tourism Malaysia Deputy Director General (Planning) Dato’ Hj. Azizan Noordin and MAS Group CEO, Encik Ahmad Jauhari Yahya hosted the event to over 300 guests comprising of the travel trade, corporate and diplomatic community.
The Minister of Environment & Water of United Arab Emirates (UAE), Dr. Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad was the guest of honour for the event which was also graced by the Ambassador of Malaysia to UAE, Dato’ Ahmad Anwar Adnan and Consul General of Malaysia in Dubai Dato’ Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin.
In his speech Dato’ Hj. Azizan Noordin said more than 200 activities and events including shopping festivals such as 1Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival, 1Malaysia Year End Sale, 1Malaysia International Shoe Festival, Colors of 1Malaysia and Putrajaya Flora Parade will be hosted during the year.
Over 18,000 UAE nationals visited Malaysia in 2012 and the targeted number of tourist arrivals from UAE to Malaysia is 20,000 in 2013.
As for the Middle East, the targeted number of tourist arrivals to Malaysia is 295,000. Tourism Malaysia Dubai is promoting Malaysia aggressively in the region by highlighting islands, beaches, honeymoon destinations and theme parks which includes Legoland Theme Park, Legoland Water Park and thesoon to be opened Legoland Hotel. Malaysia is also targeting luxury packages by offering luxury products such as limousine services, helicopter tours, cruise, luxury accommodation, spa etc.
Dato’ Haji Azizan also met up with representatives from Emirates Holidays and Etihad Airways to discuss joint promotions in UAE and beyond including GCC, Europe, Latin America and the East Coast of USA.
