citizenM opens its third Asian hotel in two years, and its first in Malaysia

From June 1st 2019, Malaysia-bound mobile citizens of the world will find a new reason to get excited about their destination: the citizenM Kuala Lumpur Bukit Bintang hotel.

citizenM’s new home of affordable luxury is the award-winning brand’s third venture into the Asian market (after Taipei North Gate hotel open since July 2017, and Shanghai Hongqiao hotel open since December 2018).

citizenM Kuala Lumpur Bukit Bintang is named after the district it calls home: the buzzing shopping, entertainment and dining destination within the Golden Triangle. It’s the guests’ gateway to an epicentre of food, fashion and fun, with the city’s most stunning temples and street markets easily reachable – the perfect opportunity to indulge in a cultural adventure before returning to the hotel for a bit of well-deserved rest and relaxation. At such an attractive Bukit Bintang location, tourists and business travelers will easily maximise their leisure and work time. Jalan Alor, only 100 meters from the hotel, is a famous street filled with open-air restaurants and terraces – a great place to get to know the local culture and atmosphere.

True to citizenM’s daringly disruptive attitude towards hospitality, the 210-key hotel will once again shake up the traditional hotel industry with innovative front-desk and in-room technology, smart rooms packed with efficient luxury, and a delightfully smooth guest experience. The oneminute check-in/check-out kiosks completely eliminate the usual queues to reception, and in place of a lobby there’s a designer living room with ultra-comfortable Vitra furniture, commissioned art, books, work spaces, and TVs.

The eye-catching colourful facade of the hotel places the living room in a can’t-miss-it streetlevel spot, giving an enchanting view of the stylish interior to guests and passers-by. The living room will feature a painted art ceiling, foliage carpets, and large planters with hanging greenery – all representing the colours and lush nature Malaysia is known for.

The guests are welcome to use the living room just like they would at home – to relax, read, watch TV, work, or meet friends. The living room is the most recognisable feature of any citizenM hotel, yet styled specifically in homage to each host city. This new citizenM hotel will feature artwork by local artists, mixed with iconic pieces from around the world, such as Azizi Latiff and Afiq Faris.

In a prominent living room spot, guests will find canteenM: a dining space and bar, dedicated to 24/7 food and drink. Arrivals from all time zones will find shelves stocked with delicious meals, snacks, sweets, sodas and juices. canteenM baristas will make a perfect coffee at any time of day or night, or a craft cocktail to toast another day of fun, culture and success. In the morning, canteenM transforms into a breakfast station serving a selection of cold and hot options for every appetite.

To make business travel (and impressing clients) even easier, citizenM Kuala Lumpur Bukit Bintang comes complete with societyM – three creative meeting spaces that have nothing to do with traditional uninspired beige boardrooms. The largest societyM room will be set up theatrestyle for up to 40 participants (with a full-size whiteboard wall to write their ideas upon), while two smaller rooms will seat up to 14 people each. All societyM rooms will feature Vitra furniture, colourful art and decor, AV equipment, stationery and unlimited refreshments. societyM rooms can be booked for full- or half-day meetings, workshops, presentations, interviews, and other gatherings, with catering available on request.

A major difference between traditional hotels and citizenM is in the room variety. A traditional hotel has at least three room types. A citizenM hotel has just one room: the perfect one. Eliminating multiple room types means every guest gets the same affordable luxury experience no matter where they sleep. Every bedroom has a huge XL king-size bed with a luxury mattress, duvet and pillows, as well as a powerful rain shower and towels as thick as carpets. A smart TV, blackout blinds, multiple plugs and Vitra furniture cover all essentials. The entire room is controlled by an iPad, known at citizenM as ‘MoodPad’ – because a guest can use it to set any mood in the room, including coloured lighting, temperature and entertainment content. There are also pre-programmed moods for party, relaxation, romance or movie-watching. Plus, with superfast free Wi-Fi available without any limits, guests will easily stream their own
entertainment via Apple or Android devices.

Guests are welcomed and cared for by a multi-talented and multi-lingual team of citizenM ambassadors, chosen not for their hospitality experience, but for sparkling personalities and genuine passion for all things travel. They have the freedom to do whatever is best for each guest, from shaking a perfect cocktail, to suggesting great local places to visit.

citizenM Kuala Lumpur Bukit Bintang opened its doors on June 1st 2019. It is the Dutch brand’s first opening of 2019, making it citizenM’s 16th stylish urban destination worldwide, and third overall in Asia. For further details, visit
