KUALA LUMPUR, 6 September 2016 – The Ministry of Tourism and Culture will organize the Citrawarna@Kuala Lumpur 2016 on 25 September 2016 at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur. This was announced by the Deputy Secretary General of Tourism and Culture Malaysia, Ybhg. Datuk Rashidi Hasbullah in a press conference held at the Malaysia Tourism Centre, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, today.
With the theme “Myths and Folklore”, Citrawarna@Kuala Lumpur 2016 will show unique street performances based on myths and tales of the popular legends in every state in Malaysia.
According to Ybhg. Datuk Rashidi Hasbullah, myth, legend and folklore are a form of marketing tool for a destination as the stories provide a unique and special character to a destination, thus, attracting tourists to visit.
“In term of tourism context, telling the stories of myth can also give inspiring and exciting experience for tourists, especially when it is associated with mystical powers or even tragic scenario. Citrawarna@Kuala Lumpur 2016 will provide a different experience where the visitors can learn and witness our local myths and legends closer, “he added.
Among the stories of myths and legends chosen to be performed during the Citrawarna@Kuala Lumpur 2016 are;-
- Kedah – ‘Merong Mahawangsa’
- Pahang – ‘Lagenda Tasik Chini’
- Selangor – ‘Upu Chendera’
- Negeri Sembilan – ‘Sang Kelembai’
- Johor – ‘Puteri Gunung Ledang’
- Terengganu – ‘Bukit Puteri’
- Melaka – ‘Hang Tuah’
- Perlis – ‘Jentayu’
- Kelantan – ‘Cik Siti Wan Kembang’
- Pulau Pinang – ‘Iktisyaf (Pertemuan)’
- Perak – ‘Anak Panah Perak’
- Sabah – ‘Kuminodun Puteri Nabah’u
- Sarawak – ‘Tugau’
In addition, Citrawarna@Kuala Lumpur 2016 will showcase performances from various ethnic groups like Chinese, Indian, Thai and ‘Orang Asli’.
Citrawarna@Kuala Lumpur 2016 will offer two main segments; the first one will be the Chillax Zone, which will last for two (2) days from 24 September (Saturday) until 25 September 2016 (Sunday) from 4.30pm to 11.00pm. Various activities are being scheduled for the Chillax Zone which include Buskers performances, Photowall, Coffee Corner, KL Food Truck Fiesta, games, exhibitions and sales from strategic partners of Citrawarna@Kuala Lumpur 2016.
The second segment which is also the main agenda, will take place on 25 September 2016 (Sunday). Myth and folklore performances will begin at 8.00 pm and will be followed by a concert by local artists like Ayda Jebat, Datin Alyah, Drama Band, Aweera, Sissy Faith and Payslip.
For the convenience of visitors, the LRT service will be extended until 1.00 am on 25 September 2016.
Ybhg. Datuk Rashidi Hasbullah also announced that MOTAC has worked with strategic partners through the National Blue Ocean Strategy (BOS) to encourage participation from private sector and involvement of the public in the events organized by MOTAC. This time, the strategic partners are Starbucks Malaysia, Green Life Landscape, LanBaharin Kuala Lumpur, Josh Lee Fragrances, Teratak Spa, GayaTravel Magazine, Che Din MaTiCfm Food and radio stations MaTiCfm.
In conjunction with Citrawarna@Kuala Lumpur 2016, Starbucks has also introduced Starbucks Malaysia Relief City Mugs as official souvenirs for Citrawarna@ Kuala Lumpur 2016. Each design is inspired by the local’s landmarks or monuments, flora and fauna and cultural values. They are available in all 221 Starbucks cafes throughout the country and are up for sales at the Starbucks’s booth during Citarawarna@Kuala Lumpur 2016 from 24 to 25 September 2016.
Citrawarna was first introduced in 1999, and has been made as an annual event ever since to promote and celebrate the arts, heritage, culture, nature and the uniqueness of Malaysia through light show, music, dance performances and fireworks that are bound to fascinate both local and international visitors.
