KUALA LUMPUR, 5 NOVEMBER 2024 – Batik Air is delighted to announce the addition of a new direct route between Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) and Sultan Abdul Halim Airport, Alor Setar (AOR), enhancing access to Kedah’s vibrant cultural and tourism offerings.

This new service, set to commence on 5th December 2024, strengthens Batik Air’s commitment to connecting northern Malaysia with the nation’s central hub, creating seamless travel opportunities and fostering stronger ties across regions.

The Kuala Lumpur–Alor Setar route marks a major milestone in Batik Air’s domestic network expansion, bridging the bustling capital with the historic charm of Kedah. Known for its scenic rice paddies, rich heritage sites, and lively local markets, Alor Setar invites visitors to experience an authentic side of Malaysia that appeals to both leisure and business travellers alike.

From historic landmarks such as the iconic Alor Setar Tower and Balai Besar to the culinary treasures of Pekan Rabu, Kedah’s state capital presents an enticing blend of tradition and modernity. This new route promises to bolster tourism, support local economies, and enhance accessibility to this unique northern region.

Batik Air Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, highlighted the importance of strengthening connections between northern Malaysia and the capital, stating that this new route supports domestic tourism while creating opportunities for economic growth in the northern region.

“We’re thrilled to support Tahun Melawat Kedah 2025 and its inspiring theme, ‘Experience Kedah’— an invitation for visitors to immerse themselves in Kedah’s distinctive charm,” he remarked, noting that

Kedah ranks among Malaysia’s top five states for tourist arrivals, with over 6.45 million visitors in 2023, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia.

The Kuala Lumpur–Alor Setar route will operate seven times weekly, offering convenient daily flights for passengers. Batik Air’s Boeing 737 aircraft will serve the route, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable journey in both Economy and Business Class.
