Exploring Istanbul’s Charms via Sabiha Gokcen Route with Batik Air

KUALA LUMPUR, 2 November 2023 – Batik Air is thrilled to announce yet another remarkable expansion of its global network with the commencement of a new route to Istanbul, Turkiye – offering travellers the opportunity to explore the rich historical legacy of the Ottoman Empire.

Starting on 9 February 2024, this new direct service will operate four times weekly departing every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, offering travelers convenient access to the mesmerizing city of Istanbul via Sabiha Gokcen Airport (SAW).

This latest edition demonstrates Batik Air’s dedication to expanding its global presence while providing passengers with more opportunities to explore the diverse and culturally rich city of Istanbul.

Istanbul, a city that straddles Europe and Asia across the Bosphorus Straits, where the past embraces the future, has forever been a destination of timeless beauty and profound historical significance. 

Renowned for its awe-inspiring architecture, cultural richness, and the seamless fusion of European and Asian influences, Istanbul promises an enthralling experience for all who venture there. From the iconic Hagia Sophia to the vibrant Grand Bazaar and the tranquil Bosphorus, Istanbul unveils a treasure trove of cultural, historical, and culinary wonders, waiting to be discovered by every traveller.

Group Strategy Director of Batik Air, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy shared insights into the decision to choose Sabiha Gokcen Airport (SAW) as the point of entry into Istanbul. 

“Sabiha Gokcen Airport was carefully selected as an excellent gateway to explore Istanbul and its surroundings. Its strategic location ensures easy access to the city’s most iconic attractions and provides a seamless travel experience for our passengers,” he said.

This new route aims to offer travellers more choices and an easier way to explore the beauty and wonders of Istanbul. He added that this route will foster stronger bonds between Malaysia and Turkiye, enhancing both cultural and economic ties.

Flight OD723 departs from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 4:50 pm, arriving at SAW at 10:45 pm (local time) except on Sundays, the departure from KUL is at 8:00 pm and arrives at SAW at 1:55 am (local time).

The return flight, OD724, operates on Mondays, departing at 5:00 am (local time) and arriving in KUL at 8:50 pm, whilst on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, it departs at 12:05 am (local time) and arrives in KUL at 3:55 pm.

To mark the launch of this exciting new route, Batik Air is introducing special introductory prices for travellers, starting at RM 1,999 for Economy Class and RM5,499 for Business Class – all-in  one-way trip fares.

Operating the Airbus A330 aircraft, which boasts 12 Business Class seats and 365 Economy Class seats, Batik Air ensures a pleasant and comfortable journey for all passengers. Batik Air also offers a selection of pre-purchased meals and additional baggage allowance at discounted rates. Meals and drinks are also available for sale on-board in all Batik Air flights.
