Management agreement signed with OSK Holdings Berhad will mark the entry of the first internationally branded resort in Damai Laut
Hilton, one of the world’s fastest-growing hospitality companies, has announced the upcoming entry of its DoubleTree by Hilton brand in Damai Laut, Malaysia, through a conversion of the existing Swiss-Garden Beach Resort Damai Laut. Set to open in 2020, the 291-room DoubleTree by Hilton Damai Laut Resort will be the first internationally-branded resort managed by Hilton in Damai Laut, offering unobstructed views of the Strait of Malacca and Pangkor Island.
“Damai Laut is one of the key gateways to the beautiful surrounding islands including Pangkor Island and Marina Island. As a coastal town with rich historical heritage, Damai Laut has huge potential to be the next resort destination of choice for domestic travelers. We are confident the entry of the DoubleTree by Hilton brand to the location will help propel demand as we deliver our iconic DoubleTree by Hilton hospitality to guests in this region,” said Shawn McAteer, senior vice president and global head, DoubleTree by Hilton. “As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of DoubleTree by Hilton this year, we are excited to continue expanding our presence in Malaysia and giving more guests the opportunity to experience our comfortable spaces and warm service, all starting with our signature welcome.”
DoubleTree by Hilton Damai Laut Resort will be located within 425 acres of lush greenery, featuring an 18-hole award-winning golf course with direct access to the beachfront. Strategically located along the southern reaches of Lumut, the resort will be situated near the only turtle sanctuary of the west coast.
“The conversion of DoubleTree by Hilton Damai Laut Resort will be a great addition to our current family of 11 hotels in Malaysia, joining the four DoubleTree by Hilton hotels and resorts in the country. We are seeing increasing interest from both domestic and international travelers in exploring destinations that are unique and off the beaten path, and the launch of the first internationally-branded resort in Damai Laut will be a huge draw for them to visit. We look forward to welcoming guests when the resort opens next year,” said Jamie Mead, regional general manager, Malaysia, Philippines and Vietnam, Hilton.
“We recognize the immense tourism potential in Malaysia, which is one of our key growth markets here in South East Asia. Secondary and tertiary destinations within the country such as Damai Laut are opening up to tourism even more and we are keen to continue expanding our footprint and portfolio of brands across both gateway and secondary cities in the market by working with the right partners,” said Guy Phillips, senior vice president, Asia & Australasia, Hilton. “We are delighted to partner with OSK Holdings Berhad to introduce DoubleTree by Hilton to the market as the first internationally-branded resort in Damai Laut.”
DoubleTree by Hilton Damai Laut Resort will offer 291 guest rooms with a mix of garden and sea views and feature five dining outlets including an all-day dining restaurant, a specialty restaurant and a beach restaurant. Guests traveling for leisure can enjoy a mini water park and an 18-hole golf course located at the resort, which will also feature meetings and events facilities including a 1,860 square meter event space and an 885 square meter ballroom.
“Hilton has long been recognized as a leading player in the travel and tourism industry, with their unwavering commitment to innovation and collaboration and we are delighted to be partnering with them as we are confident they will drive performance for the property. We look forward to working closely with them to bring the DoubleTree by Hilton brand into Damai Laut for the first time, and setting new benchmarks of service excellence with the iconic Hilton brand,” said Ong Ju Yan, Group Managing Director of OSK Holdings Berhad.
