KUALA LUMPUR, 1 June 2021 – The Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF) together with longtime strategic partners, Karex Berhad and Hilton, are proud to announce their first collaboration to support the government’s strategic plan of Ending AIDS by 2030. The campaign is introduced as ONE® x Hilton for MAF.
As one of the fastest-growing hospitality companies in the world, Hilton will have a special edition condom – ONE® Condoms from Karex Berhad – to be available in the rooms of all their branches throughout the country, including DoubleTree by Hilton and Hilton Garden Inns. In this significant vision, the product will be available for their clientele during the stay. Aside from that, the public can visit the MAF official store on Shopee to buy the exclusive special edition condom at only RM30. All purchases of the condoms will be directly channelled to the Malaysian AIDS Foundation to support Treatment, Care and Support programmes for the underprivileged PLHIV community.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a huge toll on our fundraising endeavours as we have been restricted in holding any form of charity fundraising events. I am very grateful to have Karex Berhad and Hilton, who have been our long-standing partners, to continue to be on board with us through these difficult times. This partnership is what we need to help us
continue our efforts to bring AIDS to an end by 2030 and alleviate the plight of the PLHIV community,” remarked Malaysian AIDS Foundation Chairman, Professor Dato’ Dr Adeeba Kamarulzaman.
She added, “As of 2019, sexual transmission of HIV has remained the highest at 95% out of all other transmissions. We need to emphasise the importance of practising safe sex, frequent HIV testing and expand pre-exposure prophylaxis for those at risk, and ensure that people living with HIV are receiving life-saving antiretroviral therapy. I believe this partnership will help to break barriers in addressing HIV prevention and treatment and create meaningful conversation regarding HIV and sexual transmission.”
The ONE® Condoms, which is packaged in a sophisticated blue tin container and wrapped in an eco-friendly small box made from recycled materials, will reflect and symbolise the partnership between Karex Berhad and Hilton.
“Hilton is proud to announce this partnership with Karex Berhad in the cause to support the Malaysian AIDS Foundation. This is our first time delving in a partnership with Karex Berhad and we admire their efforts in supporting the community. Hilton has always been an ally for the PLHIV community as we believe everyone, regardless of their health status, deserves to be respected and live a life free from discrimination. I have great expectations of the outcome of this partnership and the campaign in moving forward with Ending AIDS by 2030,” said Marketing and Communications Director of Hilton, Malaysia, Philippines and Vietnam, Eugene Oelofse.
“Through our partnership, this is the second opportunity we have with the Malaysian AIDS Foundation in producing special edition condoms. Karex Berhad continues to support MAF in efforts to bring awareness on sexual and reproductive health and the HIV epidemic. We are honoured that this time, we are partnering with Hilton in realising this mass scale campaign.
It’s now or never when it comes to bringing attention surrounding this issue. I hope this partnership will develop into something greater in the direction of helping the community,” remarked Group Chief Executive Officer of Karex Berhad, Mr Goh Miah Kiat.
The Safe Sex Ends AIDS campaign is also leveraging on the voices of passionate celebrity advocates such as Dino Omar, Shah Shamsiri and Sharifah Sakinah, collectively known as the Red Ribbon Celebrity Supporters, to reach out to their fans and Malaysian public with this important message through social media campaign and series of PSAs.
