The newly appointed Chairman of the National Visual Arts Development Board, Dato’ Mahadzir Lokman and the Chief of Defence Force Malaysia, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Zulkifeli bin Mohd. Zin, also graced the event, including the respective Secretary Generals of both Tourism & Culture and Defence Ministries, Chairman of Tourism Malaysia and President of the Islamic International University Malaysia. Malaysia’s top singer, Dato’ Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin, also attended the event.

Ken Yang is a Malaysian artist who has been based in Paris for 12 years and trained at the Victor Hugo Academy of Arts. This exhibition marks his first time presenting his oeuvre in Malaysia.

All 35 aesthetically-pleasing artworks displayed in this exhibition employ traditional oil painting techniques such as sfumato and reminiscent of the European Renaissance masterpieces produced by Leonardo Da Vinci and Caravaggio, including the hint of Neoclassical realism approach by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres. Fans of Dato’ Siti Nurhaliza are also able to admire her portrait that was masterfully painted by Ken Yang himself, entitled ‘The Malaysian Monalisa’.

The members of the public who visit the exhibition will also get to witness Ken Yang’s personal collection of antique European furniture and jewellery, gentleman accessories and Dagguerreotype photographs, elements that strongly influence his works.

‘Ken Yang, Paris-Kuala Lumpur’ currently runs at the National Visual Arts Gallery until 1 January 2014.
