Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) Collaborates With MATTA to Promote Langkawi as Malaysia’s Favourite Destination

Kuala Lumpur – In an effort to promote Langkawi as Malaysia’s Favourite  Destination and revive the local economy, the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) has  collaborated with MATTA as the official partner of the MATTA Fair that is scheduled to take  place at the World Trade Centre (WTC) from 2nd to 4th September 2022.

Commenting on this announcement, Encik Azmil Munif Mohd Bukhari, Tourism Deputy  Manager of LADA, Mr Azmil designation said, “This partnership between LADA and MATTA is  a step in the right direction for Langkawi to promote the island as a tourist destination of  choice among local and international travellers. Especially now that we have transitioned into  the endemic phase, it is important for us to consistently roll out our efforts to ensure that  Langkawi remains the top destination for travellers.”

LADA will also be carrying out roadshows in several states across Peninsula  Malaysia, including Penang, Ipoh and the Klang Valley.

He added, “In order to achieve this, we have ensured that the creative approach we are taking  this time, RE:START, focuses all promotions on convincing tourists to return to Langkawi.  Aside from that, LADA will also be carrying out roadshows in several states across Peninsula  Malaysia, including Penang, Ipoh and the Klang Valley.”

This collaboration with MATTA is expected to create a positive impact on the tourism industry  in Malaysia and market the island to international tourists. To date, the total number of  tourist arrivals for year 2022 recorded an increase since the opening of borders. The total  number of visitors from January to June 2022 was 1,170,230 compared to last year’s  1,093,937 – showing a 7% increase this year based on the admission statistics from the same  period last year.

Besides that, this initiative supports the economic development of communities in Langkawi  that were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This recovery phase is crucial to help the  economy and tourism sector in Langkawi and ensure the economic value chain increases from  time to time.

Encik Sheikh Awadh Bin Sheikh Abdullah, MATTA FAIR Oversight Committee, MATTA shared,  “Langkawi is a truly unique destination offering a combination of culture and heritage, hence  why we have chosen to partner with LADA to promote Langkawi at this year’s MATTA Fair.  We believe that the island offers great promise and has the potential to be a top destination  among both local and international travellers.”

At the moment, there are more than 200 flights a week to Langkawi via Kuala Lumpur,  Penang, Ipoh, Kota Bahru, Johor Bahru and Singapore. Tourists will also be able to bring their  vehicles to the island via the ferry service.

To fuel further excitement among visitors, this year’s MATTA Fair will see Langkawi bringing  20 companies consisting of travel agencies, hotels and tourism products. There will also be  attractive discounts of up to 50% for tour packages, hotel stays and entry tickets offered at  the event.

This partnership announcement between LADA and MATTA is in line with the government’s  announcement of opening international borders beginning 1 April 2022. With this  announcement, all promotional plans that have been approved by the LADA Board of  Directors will proceed as scheduled.

LADA urges residents in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor to visit the Langkawi Pavilion at Matta  Fair KL for attractive offers from all travel companies in Langkawi. There will also be a lucky  draw prize to be won by visitors with a purchase of RM150 or more.
