Negeri Sembilan is renowned for its rich and unique traditional dishes. Thus, Negeri Sembilan Tourism Board, together with Gaya Travel Magazine, embarked on a journey to Kuala Pilah, Tampin, and Rembau to savour a variety of delicacies synonymous with the state. The standout dish, masak lemak cili api, boasts a thick, aromatic gravy that’s the pride of every meal. We also enjoyed theperfectly pickled daun maman and the flavourful tempoyak daun kayu, a blend of tangy, spicy, and fragrant notes that are truly special. Each bite not only satisfied our hunger but also unfolded stories of Negeri Sembilan’s culinary heritage and cultural traditions.

A Delightful Lunch with Masak Lemak at Kak Lang D’Rimba

For lunch, we stopped by Kak Lang D’Rimba in Kampung Dioh. The village’s peaceful atmosphere, surrounded by lush greenery, felt just like returning home. The highlight here is undoubtedly the masak lemak, the star of the show. From chicken to smoked catfish and smoked duck, every dish is rich, creamy, and packed with flavour.

But the masak lemak wasn’t the only treat. The side dishes were equally impressive, featuring fresh herbs paired with a spicy and flavourful sambal belacan, including traditional curries that tasted like they came straight from mom’s kitchen. Lunch here isn’t just about the food; it is an experience that brings a comforting sense of home and tradition with every bite.

The Art of Weaving and Batik: Exploring Tradition at Kraftangan Malaysia Negeri Sembilan

At the Negeri Sembilan branch of Kraftangan Malaysia, we didn’t just observe — we tried our hands on basket weaving! For a moment, we felt like aspiring artisans. While it looked simple at first, creating a neat and polished weave turned out to be quite challenging. The experience gave us a deeper appreciation for the skill and precision involved in local craftsmanship.

We also had the chance to watch the batik-making process up close. From mixing vibrant colours to using wax techniques and creating intricate patterns, every step is done with meticulous care. Watching the artisans at work was truly fascinating and deepened our admiration towards batik, an art form that is now part of the Malaysian heritage.

Signature Flavours: Nasi Goreng Bunian, Chicken Chop & Mee Kari at Warung Bunian

Our dinner at Warung Bunian was a feast of unique and delicious dishes. The eatery’s signature dish is nasi goreng bunian, a special fried rice that comes with a thick omelette, chicken soup, and an assortment of sides like chicken, beef, tempeh (fried fermented compacted soy beans), carrot, cauliflower, and winged beans. Every bite is scrumptious and deeply satisfying.

Another crowd favorite is the eatery’s chicken chop bunian, which is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, paired with a spicy sambal that perfectly complements the dish. This version of chicken chop possesses a distinct, irresistible flavour that you couldn’t find elsewhere.

And of course, we couldn’t miss the mee kari kerang, a local favorite in Kuala Pilah. The thick spiced curry broth, combined with fresh cockles, makes this dish truly unforgettable. If you’re looking for mouth-watering food, Warung Bunian is the place to be!

Exciting Challenges: Horse Riding and Archery at Ladang Alam Warisan

We headed to Ladang Alam Warisan in Kuala Pilah for some adventure namely horse riding and archery. This place offers unique activities for those who are keen to explore traditional sports.

Our adventure began with horse-riding, where we were taught how to handle the horses properly. Surrounded by lush greenery and fresh air, the experience was both liberating and calming. The horses were gentle and friendly, making us feel at ease and confident when riding them.

Next, we moved on to archery. While it was a bit challenging, it was incredibly fun! With guidance from skilled instructors, we learned how to aim accurately and felt an amazing sense of achievement when our arrows hit the target. This activity not only tested our shooting skills but gave us a chance to experience a traditional sport with deep historical roots too.

Ladang Alam Warisan isn’t just about horse-riding and archery — it is a perfect spot to spend quality time with family or friends while enjoying the beauty of nature.

The Delight of Masak Lemak Cili Api at Zaini Salai

Anyone visiting Kuala Pilah shouldn’t miss a stop at Zaini Salai for their masak lemak cili api. This place is famous for its spicy, creamy masak lemak cili api that is absolutely satisfying and top-notch! The spice level is perfect, while the gravy is thick and tasty. With smoked fish, smoked chicken, and fresh vegetables, every bite is a true delight. One serving is definitely not enough!

Besides the masak lemak cili api, there are plenty of other delicious dishes to try. The portions are generous, so you’ll definitely leave full and happy. Zaini Salai has a laid-back, village atmosphere that’s peaceful and comfortable. It’s the perfect place to enjoy great food while soaking in refreshing views.

A Relaxing Break at Kayo Café: Delicious Desserts and Irresistible Coffee

After indulging in the rich, spicy masak lemak cili api, we headed to Kayo Café in Tampin to enjoy refreshing desserts. This café is known for its unique and tasty dessert options, and the classic, retro atmosphere makes you feel like you’ve stepped back into the 1960s, perfect as a hangout.

We tried a few of their standout desserts, including the hazelnut chocolate croissant, soft and filled with rich hazelnut chocolate, and the cafe’s signature som som gula melaka, a sweet treat bursting with the flavour of palm sugar. Every dessert here is made with care, and each bite was absolutely delightful.

In addition to the desserts, we couldn’t resist trying the cafe’s spaghetti daging salai cili api. The combination of spicy and smoky taste from the smoked meat was delicious and definitely worth trying. And if you’re here, don’t miss the cafe’s kopi atok and kopi nenek, which are both uplifting! The coffee is strong and aromatic, perfect for those who appreciate a good cup of quality brew.

Kayo Café offers a variety of refreshing drinks, all made with carefully selected coffee beans. It’s the ideal place to unwind after a hearty meal. With its cosy and comfortable ambiance, it’s the kind of place you won’t want to leave!

A Peaceful Night Amidst Durian Orchards: A Stay at Caravan

After a day full of activities, we spent the night at Caravan, nestled within a durian orchard. Surrounded by durian trees that were starting to bloom and bear fruit, the atmosphere here is incredibly refreshing. As soon as we woke up, we were greeted by the sweet aroma of durians and the cool, calming air — truly the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

At Durian Ecolodge, you really feel connected to nature. With lush greenery, cool breezes, and a relaxed ambiance, this place offers a retreat far from the noise of urban life. Guests can enjoy breakfast and tea while relishing fresh seasonal fruits directly from the orchard. A variety of activities is available too, from darts and pool, at a small fee, to leisurely walks exploring the stingless bee farm and mini zoo. The view from the observation tower is also stunning, offering a breathtaking panorama of Tampin town.

The Ecolodge also has facilities like picnic areas, barbecue spots for social gatherings, and plenty of beautiful photo ops, for example, the rainbow path and heart-shaped formations in the orchard. It’s the perfect place for anyone looking to relax, unwind, and enjoy the beauty of nature while engaging in laid-back activities!

The Authentic Taste of Masak Lemak Cili Api in Every District of Negeri Sembilan

At Ku-waah Masak Lemak Cili Api, we were served a meal on a large platter, prepared in traditional style. The use of the old-fashioned serving plates brought a nostalgic touch, reminding us of the past. As we ate, it felt like we were back in a village setting, sharing a meal with family or friends from a platter filled with various dishes.

The masak lemak cili api here is outstanding for its spicy and rich flavour. The dishes, including chicken, fish, and vegetables, were all fresh and delicious. Having lunch here felt extra satisfying, not just because of the food, but also due to the traditional serving style that made the experience more enjoyable and relaxed.

Masak lemak cili api in Negeri Sembilan never disappoints! No matter where you go, from Kuala Pilah and Tampin to Rembau, every serving of masak lemak cili api is sure to pack a punch. Our journey continued to Rembau Museum, located in the heart of Rembau town. The museum offers a fascinating experience, showcasing the history and culture of the Rembau district. There is so much to discover here, from traditional tools and clothing to the stories of the local community.

We had the opportunity to see an intriguing collection that reflects the way of life of the locals in the past, including a variety of well-preserved antiques and artefacts. The atmosphere inside the museum was calm, and it felt as though we were transported back in time, gaining a deeper understanding of the history and culture that shaped the identity of Rembau.

The museum presents a fresh perspective on the cultural heritage of Negeri Sembilan, particularly the deeply rooted adat perpatih that plays a significant role in the lives of the local people, making it educational but eye-opening.

Rembau Has an Aesthetic Café! Let’s Chill at Goma Café

Who says Rembau doesn’t have any aesthetic cafés? We found Goma Café, a bit tucked away, but totally worth the visit! Although it’s not located in a busy area, the atmosphere here is beautiful and homely, ideal for anyone who loves to hang out and sip coffee.

The café is spacious, comfortable, and not crowded, so it is suitable for a long hangout with friends. The coffee is great, and they also have a selection of delicious desserts and light bites. If you’re looking to relax in a peaceful and laid-back vibe, Goma Café is the place to be!

In the afternoon, enjoy a hot cup of coffee or an iced latte while taking in the cool breeze. Plus, there are plenty of beautiful spots for #OOTD pics, so don’t forget to snap some photos! If you’re looking for a unique glamping experience, Api-Api D’NKA Glamping in Rembau is definitely worth checking out! Surrounded by nature, this place offers stunning views and fresh air, making it the perfect spot to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and find peace while enjoying the beauty of the outdoors.

The glamping facilities here are really comfortable, with luxurious tents, clean bathrooms, and shower facilities. Plus, there’s ample parking and a barbecue area for outdoor activities. If you’re into outdoor adventures, you can go hiking, cycling, or even fishing. The best part is, even if you don’t stay overnight, you can still come over for Api-Api D’NKA Glamping’s delicious steamboat meals. It’s the perfect place for anyone looking to relax and take a break from the daily grind!
