Selangor, Bandung Ink MoU on Cultural Exchange

BANDUNG, 13th June 2023 – The Selangor State Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Education Department of Bandung City regarding a cultural exchange programme entitled ‘Silang Budaya’ to be conducted between the Malaysian Primary Schools and Indonesian Elementary Schools in Bandung, Indonesia

The aim is to promote Selangor’s cultural arts to foreign communities, especially ASEAN member countries.

The MoU was signed by Selangor State Executive Councillor for Culture Mr. Borhan Bin Aman Shah and the Head of Primary School Development Division of Bandung City Mr. Bambang Ariyanto.

According to Mr. Borhan, the MoU serves as a foundation to showcase the artistic and cultural talents of Selangor to other countries.

“With this MoU, we hope to exchange cultural experiences between Bandung or Indonesia and Selangor. Although many in Indonesia and Malaysia are of similar origins, our respective cultures have evolved distinctly. So, through this MoU, we hope to establish and maintain good relations between Selangor, Malaysia, and Bandung, Indonesia,” he said after the signing ceremony of the Cultural Exchange MoU at the Bandung City Creative Auditorium.

The MoU is also an effort to establish student exchange programmes or foster family programmes between Selangor and Bandung in the future.

Meanwhile, Mr. Bambang Ariyanto explained that the MoU agreement aims to strengthen relationships and foster cultural and economic cooperation between the two nations.

During the event, two troupes from Selangor – the Tunas Cempuling group from Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Lang in Kuala Langat and the Muzik Asli Seri Kenchana from Kuala Selangor – had the opportunity to perform at the Bandung City Creative Auditorium.

Additionally, five schools under the Bandung City Education Department, namely Antapani Elementary School, Cikutra Elementary School, Padasuka Elementary School, Guruminda Elementary School, and Cisaranten Kidul Elementary School, also showcased their respective cultural performances.
