The Selangor State Government through its official tourism promotion agency Tourism Selangor continues its proactive move towards strengthening State’s domestic tourism by executing the “Eager to Travel? Pusing Selangor Dulu!” Campaign that was first introduced on 10 June 2020 via digital platform, in line with the announcement made by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) regarding the re-opening of domestic tourism in conjunction with the implementation of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO).
“Eager to Travel? Pusing Selangor Dulu!” campaign is carried out online such as Selangor e-Travel Fair, social media campaigns with key opinion leaders (KOLs), digital advertising, stand-still and digital billboards, including unipoles at strategic locations throughout Malaysia.
Because the after-effects of Covid-19 pandemic worldwide negatively affected the tourism industry, especially those based in Selangor, Selangor State Government has formulated two Economic Stimulus Packages to resuscitate the economy and ensure the continuity of livelihood. On 13 July 2020, an Economic Recovery Plan for the state was announced by YAB. Dato’ Seri Amirudin bin Shari, Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor, which includes a Tourism Aid Package totalling RM 2,553,000.00.
RM 553,000.00 from that amount was distributed to 553 recipients – each receiving RM 1,000 – comprising 486 members of Selangor Tourist Guide Association (SGTA), 16 homestay coordinators authorised by MOTAC, and 51 Selangor Community Hosts as one-off incentive on 19 November 2020.
The remaining RM2 million from the Tourism Aid Package is allocated as subsidy in the form of 10,000 Selangor Tourism Vouchers (each voucher valued at MYR200), which was launched on 17 December 2020 in Shah Alam as part of ‘Pusing Selangor Dulu’ campaign.
Each voucher will be rolled out to a lucky registrant of Touch n’ Go E-Wallet and Lazada Malaysia app user. The voucher can then be used to purchase from a list of tourism packages offered on the electronic wallet and marketplace applications featured via a special micro-link that states “Eager to travel? Pusing Selangor Dulu!”.
The vouchers will become available on both e-commerce platforms from 8 until 31 January 2021, with the purchased packages being the valid up until 31 June 2021. In honouring the frontliners, Selangor State Government has set aside 3,000 of the vouchers for the Selangor frontliners who contributed in containing the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
To further boost Selangor’s appeal, Tourism Selangor also appoints Che Puan Juliana Evans as the Ambassador of ‘Eager to Travel? Pusing Selangor Dulu!” campaign for two years. Che Puan Juliana Evans will work hand-in-hand with Tourism Selangor to promote Selangor’s tourism gems on her dedicated social media platform. This appointment is coherent with Tourism Selangor’s vision to reach out to a larger audience base with fresh and up-to-date alternative via digital platform.
Tourism Selangor even partners with Malaysian Inbound Tourism Association (MITA) to develop 17 ‘Eager to Travel? Pusing Selangor Dulu’ tourism packages. This partnership involves coordinating and putting together a list of Selangor’s affordable packages, which will later be marketed by tourism agencies registered under MITA.
Other initiatives include the execution of Jelajah Pesona Selangor roadshow to other Malaysian States and the staging of online tourism events while adhering to the standard operating procedures and new norms as outlined by the Malaysian National Security Council.
