Canon Marketing Malaysia introduces two new digital compact cameras, the PowerShot G5 X Mark II and PowerShot G7 X Mark III successors to the G5 X and G7 X Mark II respectively. These Canon’s flagship compact models continue with the series’ heritage, featuring a stellar combination of DSLR speed, quality and lightweight handling.
The PowerShot G5 X Mark II and PowerShot G7 X Mark III boast a 20.1MP, 1-inch stacked CMOS sensor, a wide aperture of f/1.8- f/2.8 with a good optical zoom of 5X (PowerShot G5 X Mark II) and 4.2x (PowerShot G7 X Mark III) and Canon’s pioneering DIGIC 8 processor in their compact bodies to offer DSLR-like creative expression in both stills and uncropped 4K videos.
So if you’re looking for great travel cameras to capture all those precious holiday snaps, these models could be the answer.
Powered by Canon’s DIGIC 8 Processor, the key highlight of the two cameras is its 1-inch stacked CMOS sensor, which is larger than sensors typically found in compact cameras. This enhances the cameras’ performance with faster autofocus to produce crisp, clear shots in almost any light.
With a newly designed f/1.8- 2.8 lens with 24-120mm focal range which provides a 5x zoom (the PowerShot G7 X Mark III has 24-100mm focal range, giving 4.2x zoom), the PowerShot G5 X Mark II is poised to handle anything from shooting portraits to macro close-ups of 0.47x magnification and is excellent for creating shallow depth of field effects.
Travelling is all about having unique experiences, which more often than not, involve a lot of movements. For instance, watching a flamenco show in Spain would be special but capturing one perfect frame of the performance might be challenging. Now, you can shoot boldly with the PowerShot G5 X Mark II and PowerShot G7 X Mark III. Its pre-shoot setting will start shooting at 0.5 seconds before you even press the shutter release button. Hence, the moment will still be captured even if you press the shutter button a split second later. These models can also take photographs at a high speed of 30 shots per second in RAW burst mode (and 20fps in jpeg), making sure you miss nothing, especially if you are capturing jump shots.
Both cameras also include a panoramic mode, activated by a simple push of a button. With horizontal or vertical panning, you can easily capture panoramic shots – of The Great Pyramid of Giza, for instance – with amazing details in high quality.
Both PowerShot G5 X Mark II and PowerShot G7 X Mark III lets users capture 4K movies without crop, allowing you to take full advantage of your lenses to shoot landscape videos.
With 4K movies recorded in motion JPEG, frame grabs are possible, allowing users to review footage and at any given point, extract a moment from the video and save it as a high-quality 8MP JPEG on the camera.
Travellers, especially solo wanderers, will get to test their creativity with a tilting LCD feature on both cameras. Now, you can shoot from different angles, be it from the ground up, or from high angles to create videos with a unique point of view.
Packing right and avoiding unnecessary weight are crucial for a smooth travel. And that also includes bringing a camera that is not only light, but also small and discreet in order to avoid preying eyes of pickpockets. The PowerShot G5 X Mark II and PowerShot G7 X Mark III fit the bill as their highly pocket-friendly dimensions and ergonomic design can easily fit into a slip-pocket in your bag.
The PowerShot G7 X Mark III also comes in two colours – black and silver. Users familiar with Canon’s EOS cameras would appreciate both cameras’ operation and intuitive control features, which has been upgraded from the existing compact digital camera’s user interface.
Using a camera on a full-day sightseeing tour will definitely drain its battery. But fortunately, both the PowerShot G5 X Mark II and PowerShot G7 X Mark III are capable of USB charging, hence, allowing travellers to conveniently charge the cameras with a portable charger while on the go.
You can also share your special moments to any social media platforms almost instantly as both models offer advanced connectivity features, such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), that effortlessly connect with compatible smart devices with one single tap. In fact, the PowerShot G7 X Mark III now allows users, travel vloggers specifically, to make live streaming directly with the model via Youtube’s Live Streaming service. On top of that, users can use the Canon Camera Connect app to perform network-related features.
The Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II is available in black colour and retailed at RM3,599 while the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III is available in both black and silver colours and retailed at RM2,999. Both models are available at all Canon authorised dealers nationwide.
