Desaru, Johor – 18 May 2023 – The Desaru Coast Multisport Festival presented by IRONMAN took place from 12-14 May, and saw contestants, supporters, staff and organisers from over 50 countries come together for an adrenaline-pumping, three-day event filled with exciting, food and fun.

Starting off the event was the 5-Clubs speed golf tournament at The Els Club Desaru Coast, the destination’s award-winning golf course. The speed golf competition was an all-new format designed specifically for the event that tested participants’ speed, strength and endurance.

The races kicked off with IRONKIDS, setting the stage for the entire weekend as young athletes between the ages of 7 and 15 gave the triathlon their all while proud family members cheered from the sidelines.

Athletes starting out in their triathlon journey took part in the IRONMAN 5150 and SPRINT Triathlon races, while some IRONMAN 70.3 athletes used it as a way to warm up for the main event!

In between races, eco-tour and conservation group, Junglewalla, took time to educate people about the importance of nature and appreciating local heritage. They conducted bird-watching tours, provided blowpipe shooting lessons and hosted water lily-planting activities.

While the athletes of the main event, the IRONMAN 70.3, pushed themselves, their friends and family waited with bated breath for them to cross the finish line.

Racing through the scorching heat, the athletes made their way to the finish, basking in the triumphant chorus of cheers and shouts.
