Yogyakarta Marriott Hotel has invited Chinese Guest Chef, Goh Koon Lai, from W Hotels Kuala Lumpur to showcase some of his outstanding Chinese cuisines this August at Yogyakarta Kitchen. He will create many of the dishes that he has acquired, discovered and perfected during his extensive culinary experience, serving them together with the restaurant’s core bestsellers.
From 16th to 30th August 2019, Yogyakarta Kitchen will celebrate the taste of China with dishes created from the finest ingredients, showcasing Cantonese and Szechuan cuisines within exquisite presentations upon the diners’ plates. Diners can look forward to aromas likened to “The fragrant markets of the Far East” to fill the restaurant. Dishes featured during the Chinese Flavours fortnight will include Peking Duck, XO Fried Rice, Hong Kong Fried Noodles, Chicken Szechuan, Angsio Tofu, Egg Butter Prawn, Hainan Chicken, and Wonton Noodle. Taking up one side of the room, the open buffet will be lined with custom clay pot dishes and make-your-own-noodle stations, steaming dumplings and fresh stir-fries. It will be a feast for both the eyes and, if you can fit it all in, for the stomach too.
Furthermore, if you’re in the mood for some authentic dim sum to satiate that Cantonese craving, you’re in luck. Yogyakarta Kitchen also offers the generous option of all-you-can-eat dim sum, daily. With the classics of Dried Scallop Crystal Dumpling, Black Olive Vegetable Dumpling, and Chicken Cha Siew Bun on the menu, you’re unlikely to leave feeling ‘dim sum deficient’. If you’re looking for a sweet bite along with your sweet deal, sink your teeth into the signature baked milk buns or the sweet potato sesame balls. About Chef Goh Koon Lai
W Hotels Kuala Lumpur welcomed Goh Koon Lai as the new Assistant Dim Sum Chef in 2018 to lead the kitchen team of the hotel’s Chinese restaurant, YEN. With his experience at one of the famous Michelin-starred restaurants in Italy, Chef Goh Koon Lai brought all his passion for his craft, rooted in the belief that cooking is an art instrumental in creating meaningful relationships and communities.
Before joining W Hotels Kuala Lumpur, Chef Goh Koon Lai had previously worked with some International Chain hotels in Kuala Lumpur, Phnom Penh, Selangor and Japan. Chef Goh Koon Lai grew up in Kampung Baru of Perak City, Malaysia, and his cooking is heavily influenced by the Malaysia region’s rich geography, using ingredients from the valley, the river and the forest. As the region is close to the Malaysia – Thailand border, his creations also have hints of Peranakan and Chinese cuisine.
