Shah Alam City Council, commonly known as Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam or MBSA – in collaboration with Gaya Travel Magazine – recently organised a three-day and two-night familiarisation trip to uncover the delights of this well-planned capital of Malaysia’s most developed state with the theme ‘Go Shah Alam’.

Being the capital of Selangor, Shah Alam sparkles with culture, colour, and curiosity. Whether you adore history, crave outdoor thrills, delight in comforting local food, or love discovering quirky, unforgettable attractions, you are bound to find that Shah Alam is full of surprises!

The Sultan Alam Shah Museum: A Peek into Yesterday!

Travellers should pop into the Sultan Alam Shah Museum, which is ever so interesting! This magnificent building is like a grand storybook come to life, filled with Selangor’s history. It recently reopened its doors on the 8 February2025, revealing over a thousand fascinating items.

You’ll see beautiful royal items, old manuscripts, traditional Malay wedding clothes, and even some rather curious preserved wildlife. Look out for the interesting and eerie 3-D exhibit called “Alam Kubur”! The museum promises an enlightening time, offering a captivating and educational escape. And here’s a treat: entry is free (for now!), making it easy for everyone to visit. The museum welcomes visitors on Tuesday through Sunday, from 9:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

Wet World Shah Alam: Splendid Water Fun!

Just a quick drive from the museum, you’ll find Wet World Shah Alam, a wonderful place for a cooling dip! This water park is just perfect for families, offering a lovely balance of gentle pools for a relaxing paddle and some exciting slides for those who prefer more speed. The air is filled with happy laughter and the cheerful sound of rushing water—the very best escape from a warm afternoon!

The pricing is quite straightforward: Children below 90 centimeters tall go for free! Little folks (90 cm to 130 cm) pay RM35, and adults (130 cm and above) pay RM39. Seniors and OKU guests are charged MYR20. You can also hire tubes (MYR25 plus a refundable deposit) and lockers, or even a comfortable Cabana if you wish to relax in style (prices from MYR150).

Warong Citarasa Abah: Hearty Grilled Goodness!

If you’re craving a big, hearty meal with that lovely smoky flavour, Warong Citarasa Abah is the place! This lively warong is well-known for its generous servings of freshly grilled fish and assorted seafood platters. Everything is cooked to order, ensuring a rich blend of aroma and flavour—truly comforting! Open daily from 2:00 p.m. right through to 2:00 a.m., the relaxed, open-air setting is perfect for groups sharing platters and having a cheerful chat.

Rumah Makan Selebriti: Comforting, Cosy Suppers!

For supper, we head to Rumah Makan Selebriti, owned by the charming celebrity Nazia Mustafar. This restaurant offers a warm, nostalgic dining experience. They specialise in wonderful local favourites that taste just like home cooking! You must try their famous Lontong Darat, the tasty Soto, and the various kinds of fresh Nasi Lemak. It’s open from 4:00 p.m. until midnight (closed on Mondays), offering a relaxed and satisfying evening meal in a cosy, homely atmosphere.

Sky City Park, i-City Shah Alam : Lights, Laughter, and Snow!

Culminate your day at Sky City Park at i-City Shah Alam—a dynamic place where lights twinkle and technology surprises you! Opens daily from 2:00 p.m. until midnight, you’ll be greeted by an interactive AI robot before exploring the attractions.

The highlight is the magical Snow Walk, a sub-zero winter-themed area with ice sculptures and snowy scenes, quite the contrast to the humid Malaysian weather! Entry starts at MYR63 for Malaysian adults.

For a bit of thrilling speed, the Race Karting circuit is great fun! You can race solo in the RCK Beginner Vehicle (MYR75) or with a friend in the RCK Twin Vehicle (MYR95). It’s an exciting way to end the day with some friendly competition and fast fun!

If you’re feeling adventurous, they offer an astonishing 147 food options, including Kelantan dishes, lontong darat, and more! Operating from 7:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon, it’s the ideal spot to enjoy your morning meal while watching the peaceful comings and goings around the lake.

National Botanical Gardens Shah Alam : Messy Fun and Learning!

The National Botanical Gardens Shah Alam is a wonderful place for a grand exploration! There are five fascinating sites, including the lovely Zingi berales Garden and the traditional Kampung Idaman.

The real treat is at the Padi Garden, where you can enjoy a jolly time planting rice and even try the rather messy but exciting activity of catching catfish in the mud! Afterwards, rest at Putters Café for coffee or tea, and a relaxing game of mini golf.

Tanah Aina Café: Elegant Dining in Royal Blue!

For lunch, Tanah Aina Café provides an elegant setting, all decked out in a calm royal blue theme. The atmosphere is exclusive and lovely for a relaxing afternoon. Their menu is varied and tempting, offering fresh salads, the interesting Congkak Set, Johor Laksa, and their own Tanah Aina Fried Rice. Opens from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. (closed on Mondays), it’s a stylish and refined spot for a quality meal.

The Food Tree Restaurant, Glenmarie: A Dinosaur Surprise!

The Food Tree Restaurant is quite unique! Not only is it a spacious place suitable for big gatherings, but it has a charming surprise: eye-catching dinosaur replicas and a special corner selling dinosaur toys! It makes a visit here very interactive and especially fun for families. Open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., it’s a different and amusing place to dine in Shah Alam.

ASK Coffee Roastery : The Secrets of a Good Brew!

Coffee lovers, listen up! ASK Coffee Roastery is a special place where you can learn all about coffee. Learn how to create beautiful Latte Art by clever baristas and even watched the fascinating process of the beans being roasted. It’s an educational and delicious stop! After the interactive session, sampling the high-quality coffees in the warm, inviting space is a treat. Opens from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. (closed on Sunday).

Antan Batura Watersport : Gentle Lake Activities!

For some outdoor fun, Antan Batura Watersport offers a refreshing break by the Shah Alam lake. Travellers can enjoy a peaceful cruise boat ride to take in the scenic views—a lovely, calming contrast to city life. This recreational facility also offers kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boating for those who prefer to do the rowing! Rentals generally cost between MYR20 and MYR50. Open daily from 8:30 a.m. – 7:15 p.m., it’s a great spot to enjoy nature and light activity.

P&C Kitchen : A Modern Supper Spot!

P&C Kitchen provides an elegant setting for supper with a focus on modern Western dishes. Foodies are bound to love the restaurant’s selection of pizzas, pasta, and beautifully presented desserts—everything is satisfying and looks lovely on the plate! The contemporary design and warm lighting make this a pleasant spot for a casual or relaxed evening meal. Opens daily from 12:00 noon until 11:00 p.m.
