MATTA Fair @ New Venue- MITEC KUALA LUMPUR
KUALA LUMPUR, 27 JANUARY 2023 – The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) is bringing the MATTA Fair, Malaysia’s largest consumer travel fair, from 17 until 19 March 2023, at the NEW VENUE: Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur. This event is not only going to be larger than previous years, but it will also feature more exciting destinations.
THE NEW VENUE: MITEC
MITEC was established so that it could cater to the ever-increasing requirements of the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector. MITEC’s modern corporate philosophy is closely aligned with its vision to see Malaysia become the leading MICE destination in Southeast Asia since the country is currently positioned as an economic catalyst and a gateway to the region. MITEC is a game changer in the business events industry since it gives Malaysia the capability to compete and meet the demand in new growing markets, including regional and international exhibitions, in particular the market for “mega exhibitions” that can attract over 100,000 visitors and conferences or conventions with between 200 and 20,000 delegates.
Over 52,000 metres squared of purpose-built exhibition space and triple volume display halls with endless possibilities are available at MITEC, making it the largest trade and exposition centre in Malaysia and the third largest MICE venue in Southeast Asia.
MATTA FAIR @ MITEC
The tourism and leisure business has been one of the most severely impacted by the knock-on effects of COVID-19 control measures and among the most affected industries on a global scale. It was estimated that the leisure and domestic tourism sectors lost a combined total of USD2.86 trillion, which is equivalent to a loss of revenue of more than fifty percent.
In September 2022, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTC) hosted the relaunch of MATTA Fair during the post-COVID19 transitional phase. The fact that the exhibition space on the other side of the river is no longer available makes it difficult for the organisers of MATTA Fair to continue at the venue, hence the move to MITEC.
The 52nd MATTA Fair will be held at MITEC in March 2023, and it will occupy the entire facility, including all three exhibition levels or floors totalling 37,000 metres squared of area where exhibitors can display their products. Thus, the upcoming MATTA FAIR will set a new record in terms of size.
The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) expects that the global travel and tourism sectors to recover at the levels before the pandemic in 2023 and expand faster rate than the growth of the world gross domestic product (GDP).
It is anticipated that the industry will impressively achieve an annual average growth rate of 5.8% between 2022 and 2032, creating 126 million new employments, compared to the expansion of 2.7% in global GDP. The reopening of China is a necessary condition for this to take place, and China has actually reopened as of late. As such, the relocation of MATTA FAIR to MITEC is not only apt but also conducive for future expansion.

WHAT’S NEW @ MATTA FAIR
SAUDI ARABIA is the up-and-coming player in this game. It is now one of MATTA Fair’s featured destinations because it does not only attract Muslims who want to conduct their Hajj (pilgrimage) and Umrah (minor pilgrimage), but it has now become a destination for everyone. Additionally, since Malaysia is one of the few privileged countries to be conferred with tourist visa that is valid for an entire year with multiple entries by the Saudi Arabian government, Malaysians should not give this opportunity a miss.
On top of that, some of MATTA Fair sponsors are:
• Tourism Philippines as Gold Sponsor
• Tourism Perak as Malaysia Featured Destination
• Taiwan Tourism as Asia’s Featured Destination
Regarding MATTA Fair partners, they are:
• Malaysia Aviation Group as Official Airlines Partner
• Royal Caribbean International as Cruise Partner
• AmLeisure Media as Media Partner
MATTA FAIR also includes:
• Performance Stage at every floor/level
• Café area (2 areas) on each floor inside the exhibition hall
• Broad walkway
• Restaurant/café at MITEC lobby area, plus food trucks offering greater variety of food options and sufficient space for everyone.
Level 1 or the Ground Floor is designated for Domestic destinations showcasing Malaysia’s tourism attractions, accommodations, and goods produced. In addition, all of Malaysia’s State Tourism Organisations (STO) are located here. Perak will occupy one-fifth of the floor area, making it the largest exhibitor in the Domestic section. Other states and territories such as Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Johor, Pahang, Terengganu, Sarawak, and Sabah can be found on this floor too. So is Tourism Malaysian, the National Tourism Office of Malaysia.
Levels 2 and 3 are designated as the international section (Outbound) housing a variety of National Tourism Offices (NTO) such as those from the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Hong Kong, Korea, and the Maldives, among others.
There is also the UMRAH section on the level called the Middle Floor that is replete with Umrah and Hajj packages offered by approved agencies that have been granted license by the Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture (MOTAC).
TRANSPORTATION
There is frequent and free shuttle service between the designated pick-up and drop-off points within the vicinity of MITEC, including Hentian Duta, Kompleks Mahkamah, Masjid Wilayah, Ministry of International Trade and Industries (MITI), and Malaysia External Trade Corporation (MATRADE). Other locations, particularly those that are located close to MRT stations, are being planned and will be announced at the appropriate time.
