Perak Fired Up for Visit Perak Year 2017

Both Malaysians and foreigners can now start planning their visit to Perak since the state is set to woo seven million tourists during Visit Perak Year 2017. The campaign was officially launched by the Perak State Government and Tourism Perak in collaboration with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (Malayan Railways Limited, better known as KTMB) and Ipoh City Council on 26 March 2016 at the Ipoh railway station.

The launch – officiated by the Chief Minister of Perak YAB Dato’ Seri DiRaja Dr Zambry bin Abd Kadir –showcased the campaign’s promotional video presentation, including the placement of stickers that depict various Perak destinations on the back of 300 KTM Electric Train Service (ETS) seats. Perak state government joins with KTMB to promote the Rail Tourism Package since the ETS was used by 1,807,827 users last year.

The promotion is also extended to the tour buses, state buses and five taxis. The aim of this campaign is to regain Perak’s position as the state with the highest domestic tourist arrivals in Malaysia. According to the statistics released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia, Perak received the highest domestic tourist arrivals for three consecutive years – 5.6 million in 2012; 6.01 million in 2013; 7 million in 2014.

Perak state government anticipates that the number of domestic and international tourists to the state will increase due to the opening of Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS) – the largest animation theme park in Asia – in July 2017. The state also works closely with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia to promote Perak internationally through Tourism Malaysia’s 40 offices worldwide, highlighting destinations such as Pangkor Island, Lenggong Valley Archaeological Heritage, Taiping mangrove forest that is recognised as among the best managed in the world, Royal Belum State Park and Gua Tempurung.
