Dato’ Nolee Ashilin considers Perak fortunate because it is located along the developed Peninsular Malaysia’s West Coast. The state’s considerable size allows various types of travel and tourism products and attractions to flourish. These attractions are also well distributed throughout Perak rather than being concentrated in only one or two areas within the state. “Perak receives repeat tourists because of the diversity in its tourism products that allow them to enjoy different experiences at different corners of Perak. The state has no problem in meeting tourists’ expectations in savouring various types of travel experiences,” she claims.
On 20 December 2016, Perak state government, together with Malaysia’s Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), launched the Perak Plate Programme in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2017 at the Agrobazaar Malaysia-Singapore (ABMS). The Perak Plate Programme is an initiative to introduce Perak cuisine, packaged food products and popular local delicacies by Perak’s small agro-based industries to Singaporeans, including other international travellers, to boost the state’s brand appeal as culinary and tourism destination. The programme also serves as a platform for businesses from Malaysia, particularly Perak, to be promoted to the Singaporean market, allowing them to seek potential buyers from the island republic. Both Malaysians and foreigners can now start planning their visit to Perak since the state is set to woo seven million tourists during Visit Perak Year 2017. The campaign was officially launched by the Perak State Government and Tourism Perak in collaboration with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (Malayan Railways Limited, better known as KTMB) and Ipoh City Council on 26 March 2016 at the Ipoh railway station.
