Selangor Tourism Awards 2026 Recognises Industry Excellence

SUBANG JAYA, 8 August 2026 — The Selangor state government, through Tourism Selangor, recognised outstanding contributions to the state’s tourism industry at the Selangor Tourism Awards 2026, which brought together about 1,000 industry players, government agencies, media representatives and strategic partners.

Held at the Grand Lagoon Ballroom, Sunway Resort Hotel, the event was officiated by Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The event also welcomed tourism industry delegates from Indonesia, including the Association of the Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies (ASITA) and Asosiasi Travel Agent Indonesia (ASTINDO), highlighting growing tourism ties and cooperation between Selangor and Indonesia.

Held in conjunction with Visit Selangor Year 2026, the awards featured 26 categories recognising excellence across the tourism industry.

Among the key categories were the Best Integrated Resort & Theme Park Destination, International Tourism Partnership Award and Selangor Cruise Tourism Excellence Award.

The awards recognised individuals and organisations for their performance, impact and continued commitment to advancing Selangor’s tourism sector.

In his speech, Amirudin said Selangor’s tourism achievements were driven by the collective efforts and collaboration of stakeholders across the tourism ecosystem.

“Selangor continues to make history by maintaining its position as the most-visited state in Malaysia for five consecutive years since 2021,” he said.

Selangor recorded 36.4 million domestic visitors in 2025, an increase of 5.5 per cent from the previous year, according to figures cited by Amirudin.

He said the achievement strengthened Selangor’s position as a preferred tourism destination while contributing to the state’s economic growth and fiscal strength.

Amirudin also highlighted Selangor’s broader economic performance, noting that the state recorded a gross domestic product (GDP) of RM460.1 billion, accounting for 26.5 per cent of Malaysia’s overall economy.

The achievement, he said, reflected Selangor’s economic strength, investor confidence and development policies implemented in a sustainable and inclusive manner.

The state’s tourism performance is expected to receive further impetus from Visit Selangor Year 2026, which targets nine million tourist arrivals and aims to strengthen Selangor’s position as a regional tourism gateway.

Tourism Selangor is supporting the target through promotional campaigns including Surprising Selangor, Selangor Kan Ada! and Liburan Sehat Ya di Selangor Aja!, targeting both domestic and international markets.

The Selangor Tourism Awards 2026 is part of the state government’s continued efforts to recognise tourism stakeholders, promote a culture of excellence and strengthen Selangor’s position as a leading tourism destination in Malaysia and the ASEAN region.
